Legacy & War (Battle of Nippur)
#13
I hissed a curse as not just one but three beings disappeared from my immediate area, two entirely inhuman and one who appeared normal except faster than any other thing I had ever seen. In an instant my defenses had been breached before I could even bring them to bear, and then Nealaphh was gone. Worse I had no way of knowing for how long. And almost as bothersome was another prime or what I took for one had been exiled by Omni. Was the god really that so capricious?

I was in a soon to be warzone, my escort gone, and I was subject to a deity's deficient aim taking out potential allies left and right. Although I did have knowledge, I had very much need of someone who would be a subordinate and Nealaphh had provided me just that. The city was under attack, winning myself a minion from this mess was likely my best hope to be guided to safer pastures. Or perhaps a quick death to find my way back to the Nexus. Both were certainly in my future at this rate so I focused on the name and the location of the wayward rogue that Neal had referenced.

Demetri, Nippur.

Glancing in either direction confirmed I was thoroughly alone as I drew upon my wand and my power. The front gate was a sordid insanity that I wanted no part with, so that left me with making my own entrance. Facing the heavy sandstone wall and taking a step back, I brought my arm down in a slashing thrust as the words burned my throat and rent reality itself.

“Magnus Totum Lacerovisis!” The wand bucked in my hand with the last syllable of the incantation being uttered, claiming its toll from the world and my life. From its yew tip to the earthen barrier, my focus fired a warping force that coalesced and then erupted in the span of a second. Stony bits of gore flew in every direction as a cloud of pulverized wall enveloped me. As it cleared, ambient sky filtered through the bleeding streams of musky dust. The wound in the fortification sat before me and would allow me to penetrate the city's’ defenses easily.

With a quick stride I moved forward through the opening I had wrought, the city splayed out before me like a Christmas feast and I was here to defend it from the in-laws.

More to the situation at hand though, I had a better vantage of the quarry, the place I needed to be and how likely it was for me to make there in any semblance of efficacy. Running had never been my strong suit though I could keep up with most. Even with this body being perfectly above human average, speed was not my domain. I would have to bring this fight to me.

The red and yellow star, the main event, the orchestrator; whatever or whoever it was, that would bring me the most attention and if I was successful in bringing it down it would be the means I had to secure aid in this region.

Breathing in, I only hesitated for a second at what I was going to do. I secured two incantation in my mind, one Verdis and one Frusto. The first I only needed once, the second I required many more. I split and folded it mentally five times and took aim as again I drew on magic from the world and expended my life to make it to do as I willed. I didn’t bother with more than simple wand movements, as my arm flexed easily to accommodate them and reality answered my call once more.

A burning emerald spark flew first followed shortly after with five bullet like bolts of pale crimson. When the spark flared into an unholy brightness some distance away, far enough to not be blinded myself, and practically on the Idiot’s doorstep I knew what would come next. The five evocative curses would pierce the arresting light and with any luck they would find their mark somewhere on the body of the one who and brought the giant rune in the sky into existence.

I didn’t wait for confirmation of a hit, as I pulled the tip of the wand to my through and invoking the sonorous charm silently.

“Well met would be conquerors of Nippur! I denounce your claim upon my life and demand satisfaction for this most egregious insult! I claim the right of a duel with the speaker and bringer of the yellow rune!” I said in the most biting voice I could manage while still sounding polite. I was moderately annoyed but that was no reason to be as rude as this… despot had been.
