I don't see why not, unless someone states they are gunning for you specifically, and thus far I haven't read anything in that regard. Of course, it'll be pretty straining on your relationship with the other New Babbers, if you ditch them in the moment of their struggle.

It, of course, also doesn't prevent the victory (either side) from hunting you down afterwards, though you may be able to make it hard for them to find you in that time.
