The Iron Revenant arrives.
#2
Phalanx watched over the traveling band of knights like a hawk as they neared their certain deaths with every passing hour. Although Lionheart was a formidable shield, the spectre was almost reluctant. Dragonfire was known to be hot enough to melt various types of metal, types of metal Phalanx and Lionheart were made of. Despite this, the semi-sentient armor marched on.

The Revenant had lagged behind the group slightly, its duty appeared fulfilled for now. Three days had passed without so much as a hitch, and they neared the lair of their target. It paused for a moment, lowering its shield from its ever-present defensive position to rest on the ground as it turned its helmet to the setting sun. Scenes flashed in its subconscious, people raising their arms to the sky. Chestplates carry the sun's likeness. Long ago, longer than Phalanx could recall.

A scream alerted the revenant of danger, it was too far to react instantly. It shook its helmet furiously, the lapses in its consciousness had become more common over the past few years, it made the spectre lax, made it make mistakes. Mistakes that could end fatally to those he was sworn to protect. The autonomous armor barreled through the forest in the direction of the cry, its massive shield acting like a sort of battering ram at it moved at a laughably sluggish full sprint. The Iron Revenant wasn't built for speed, it was built for defense.

When Phalanx arrived, it was immediately met with the searing flames of the winged serpent they had been hunting. One of the men was burned quite badly, but he'd make it. Phalanx slammed its fist into the shield three times in quick succession, the metal on metal rang out loudly. Once the spectre knew it had caught the attention of the knights, he motioned them to retreat. Then turned to the dragon, hitting its iron shield once more before slamming it into the ground twice. A call of battle from a mute defender. Its call was loudly answered by the reptile in front of it.
Phalanx slammed its shield into the ground once more, this time it stayed. The bedrock below it cracked under the sheer force, the armored revenant behind it braced itself, ready to do its job.
