Legacy & War (Battle of Nippur)
#2
Oblivion

Gildarts strode across the desert, finding each heaping mound of sand weighing on him than the last. He was tired, yet kept walking. Away from the gate, away from humanity, away from his world.

It is often the worst kind of exile, when a man of good character must commit himself away. And still, the wizard knew it was right. The magic in his chest continued to burst like fireworks. Explosions quake in his sound heart, yet turned his body rigid, or maybe that wasn’t even the most horrible thing.

Fear.

Gildarts, who had fallen from his once noble name, now had killed people. Innocent people. The guilt weighed less on him than the fatigue, which baffled the Prime, but hurting more, and this time hearing their pain, seeing it with his own eyes, would haunt him into a deep despair.

Throngs of magic spilled out now, wisps of glowing white energy seemed to streak out of his arm, and the sand below his metal foot had turned into solid cubes. A groan escaped him and he fell, kneeling with one high, and one leg in the sand. The air was thin, he noticed it as he drank in a soft breath, the sun was hot, already his hair felt damp against the back of his neck, and already, the Prime felt his willpower weakening.

His eyes fell over his hands, one silver, the other cloaked in the golden cover of his pale, hardened skin. Was he really going to let it happen again? His amber gaze fell on only his silver one now, and the Prime stood, this time, more confidently. . . Which is why he was startled to see an entire ray of energy release at this minute movement. The destruction wrought spanned in a long, jagged line, for quite a while before sand and dune stood in the way of his vision.

Perhaps there was no longer a place in the world for him. While Gildarts, the bearer of crash energy was surely known, and almost always completed a task or quest when he took it on, it seemed while the simple man -and all the same a wielder of crash magic- grew older, his magic remained indefatigable.

The wizard held his good hand into a fist, and tried walking to see if he could contain his energy if he tried. More or less, this time, he was successful, but he suspected this was only because he had just released so much not a few minutes before.

This time when Gildarts looked up, he did not see just limitless sand and dune, but a group of people shrouded in dark colors. In fact, the oblivious Prime now noticed the time of day and the sun sinking in the sky, Had it really been that long? What felt like moments to the Prime seemed like half a day here. It was strange, but slips of time had escaped his attention before.

Gildarts began a bout of coughing, and warned the still-blurry figures not to come near, as the Prime feared certain catastrophe for those in the group. Yet it seemed they could not hear his voice over his coughing, and he once more, found blood on his palm. Quickly he slicked it away and stomped his foot into the ground, rather than to accidentally discharge his deadly magic in their direction.
