Strazio wasn’t sure which was worse, having all of his bones crushed to dust or getting eviscerated. At least with the latter he could still move his body. The medical tent welcomed him back with open arms. He spoke to no one, his mood was more than sour. A cloud of vexation hung around the mage. Gilgamesh was no where to be found, and if the king wasn’t here what was Strazio doing here? Strazio exhaled coals, he had no idea. Sure this improved his recognition and he could potentially recruit allies in the fight against Dracula, but this was just too painful.
Foreign magicks weaved into Strazio’s body, the soft hum of healing spells stitched his wounds back together. He almost wished that he had an affinity for healing magicks, but healing magicks would not help him hunt down Damien. Then a thought occured to him, The Rock was mysteriously absent. It wasn’t that he missed the big oaf, but there was some comfort in knowing that he had the big man was in his corner. With a baleful sigh he reached for his dataverse device and checked his messages. Nothing. Not that he expected anything, his only friends beyond The Rock lacked the means to message him.
“Fuck, I can’t believe I’m gonna do this” he sighed as he tapped out a message to The Rock.
“Ohhh, that bastard” Strazio fumed at The Rock’s antics.
“I see your still sour as ever,” a familiar voice danced through the infirmary “you know being angry all the time isn’t healthy.”
In the doorway stood a brilliant ghost of the past. Despite being shorter than Strazio the man carried a presence as powerful as the Avatar’s. His aura of influence was distinctly different than Strazio’s, indeed the man carried what could only be described as a chipper demeanor. His skin was stained with a very pale tinge of green, and his smile warm and inviting. Strazio stood in awe at the sight of the vibrant man.
“V...Valerie?” the Defender of Darkshire asked as if the name was foreign to him.
With a bow and a flourish of his wrist he responded, “in the flesh, at least as far as I can tell anyways.”
Strazio strained to get out of the medical cot and ambled over to his friend. The two embraced in a tight hug. If Damien was the object of Strazio’s hate then Valerie was the object of his love. It was through the grace of Valerie’s mercy that Strazio even knew how to perform feats of magick. Strazio grew up under Valerie’s guidance and wisdom, and if it wasn’t for the seed of revenge festering in Strazio’s heart he would have turned out to be as peaceloving as the nomadic Valerie. Their hug was broken with a pat on the back and a smile.
“What are you doing here?”
“Well I heard my favorite student, my only student, was no longer a man on a quest, but rather a frighteningly bloodthirsty gladiator” Valerie raised his fists in jest.
Strazio shook his head and spoke, “no, no I mean what are you doing here. In the Omniverse.”
“Oh... That,” Valerie sighed and performed a gentle pirouette “well, you see I’m not entirely sure. I was minding my own merry business dancing in a field of water-flowers as I am wont to do. And well, next thing I know I’m here in the Omniverse.”
A goofy smile was plastered across Valerie’s lips, his lithe frame seemed to move with an unearthly grace as he moved past Strazio. The Defender of Darkshire furrowed his brow and clenched his fists, a single spark danced across his bare chest.
“So, does that mean,” he paused and turned towards the whimsical sage, “are you a prime? Did Omni drag you here?”
A laugh as soft as chirping birds escaped Valerie’s lips, “heavens no, I am but a humble secondary brought to this foreign world by the whimsy of another. A poetic occurrence, wouldn’t you agree?”
“Poetic isn’t the word I would use Val, in fact this entire Omniverse seems designed to piss me off. Everyone here seems hell bent on infurating me and they do a damn fine job of it.”
Valerie raised his index finger, revealing his pale green nail polish. From the tip of his finger a small sprout burst through his skin. The small seedling stretched upward sprouting into a beautiful red and orange spiral-flower. With his free hand he plucked the flower from his finger and handed it to the disgruntled mage. Strazio accepted the gift as spitefully as he could.
Valerie smiled and spoke “that’s a snap-lily, I found it in the Tangled Green I know red is your favorite color so I figured you would love it.”
“Eh... I,” Strazio sighed and looked at his gift, “thank you, I appreciate it.”
With another pirourette, the prancing plant mage skipped towards the exit to the medical tent. He sniffed the air and turned back to Strazio “can you smell it? Something sweetly delicious is in the air, ohh what a wonderful place this Omniverse is! You should really come and enjoy the fair Strazio, relax those angry bones.”
“As much as I would love to Val I’ve got another match in a few minutes, here’s hoping it isn’t as rough as the first two.”
“Well, as much as I don’t condone such a brutish sport I will say good luck,” Valerie turned to leave the tent, but stopped and spoke over his shoulder, “oh, and if everything here irritates you, perhaps that just means you’re easily irritated?” Before Strazio could respond the verdant nomad danced away to be lost in the simple pleasures of a wonderful fair.
