Colosseum - Spectator Thread
#43
Distractedly twisting a few buoyant curls of her hair in between her fingers, Jade listens to what Jak has to say. He mentions something about Dante’s Abyss, which she thinks she read something on the Dataverse about, but she couldn’t be certain. The memory flickers just out of reach, like a glowy firefly of cognition twinkling over a metaphorical, murky marshland of what the heck is all this irrelevant information. In the end, she has no idea of what he is talking about. Still, she makes an attempt at answering his questions to the best of her ability.

“I don’t know much about what’s going on with your friend… uhm, Daxter, right? Well, all I do know is that he was running from Victor Wolfe for a while, although he’s mostly in the clear now, probably in the Dunes somewhere. So, that’s good!” She grins, a tad sloppily, distracted by the new messages flooding into her memo.

Gosh, there sure are a lot of people who want to talk to her! Or, she supposes, they're just posting to pass the time while waiting for more interesting things to happen— they probably don’t actually want to talk to her. Jade really, really hopes that these new people aren’t as murderous as they seem to be, though. Surely not. Plus, there’s that whole thing with Nealaphh that she is trying not to think about too much, so any extra murderousness simply isn’t ideal if she wants to keep her head clear.

Weirdly enough, she’s nearly nine thousand-billion-trillion percent certain that Karkat was right in his first assessment of primordialPersistence’s character. Even now, talking about their old universes in a private pesterlog, she gets a distinct feeling of something being not quite right. But, she still feels super bad about being so quick to perpetuate eldritch creature stereotypes, so maybe she will give him the benefit of the doubt. For now, anyways.

Still, it’s weird and complicated and super dumb. But, Jade seems to be a literal sponge for weird, complicated and super dumb things, so it should hardly register on her Richter scale of strangeness anymore.

The dark-haired Witch grimaces as Karkat returns to the stands and offers up a few choice words to her new friends, rolling her eyes a bit because he is just so blunt. She hurries to alleviate most of the damage wrought by his rude behavior, mentally willing him to oh my god, just please shut up.

“Oh, no, I’m sure Karkat isn’t talking to you, Jak!” Jade blurts out, then realizes that this maaay have seemed like a slight towards her other new friend, the Space player one, and so she makes haste to correct her statement. “I mean! Not that anyone here is creepy or anything, haha! Everyone’s pretty average on the creepiness level. Of course.”

She turns to face the shouty cherry-blooded troll fully, her green eyes flicking to Gamzee for half a second before once again returning to Karkat. Then, with a start that sends her tangled black hair flying with alarming speed into Erik’s face, she looks at the spindly-horned clown troll more clearly. Her round glasses nearly slip right off of her nose, she’s so startled!

To her surprise and steadily-mounting alarm, Gamzee is covered in what looks remarkably like splatters of purplish-colored paint, like what you might see in the late evening as the rosy sunset dips below the horizon. However, Jade happens to have the knowledge that troll blood colors are waaaaay different from a humans, and so she knows that this is probably ill-spilled life-y juice and not grape soda. Also, those are obviously flesh wounds.

This unfamiliar and tall clown with a wealth of wild hair sticking up from his head grins at her, although it looks more like a grimace with the way his sharp teeth nearly cut into his bottom lip. It is wobbly and a touch weepy around the edges from where his face paint has been worn away by sweat and grit, and Jade recalls how he had simply lain down in the arena after losing his bout, completely limp and defeated.

The purple-blooded troll murmurs something that sounds akin to “S’up, woof-sis,” before returning to leaning heavily upon Karkat’s shoulder. Jade is pretty damn surprised that he hasn’t passed out yet, to be perfectly honest. The shorter troll nudges the high blood into a more comfortable position, frowning dramatically at Erik, Jak, and Jade in turn. But mostly at Erik.

Oh my god, Gamzee,” Jade exclaims, mouth dropping open in shock as she reaffixes her glasses so that they balance just so on her face. “What happened to you? Wait, no, don’t answer that! I already know the reason why— Karkat! Why didn’t you do something?”

Karkat’s lip curls back over his sort-of-sharp teeth in a slight, definitely not cute snarl. His nubby little candy-corn horns gloss over a little in the sunlight, barely visible through his messy hair. “You think I didn’t try to take this crazy juggalo to get his dumb ass stitched up? What the fuck, Harley?”

Flushing from a curious mixture of embarrassment and indignation, Jade sticks her bottom lip out at Karkat and crosses her arms across her chest with an airy flounce of her star-stippled hair. Lips pursed, she doesn't waste any time in coming up with a retort to fire right back at him. "Well, why isn't he all fixed up, then?"

"That's what I was trying to tell you before you got all snippy with me," Karkat grouses, hunching his shoulders defensively. His faces scrunches up in frustration, and he looks like the grumpiest little troll ever. Cute. "He won't let the medicull-healing-what-the-fuck-evers touch him. Don't try to pin this on me."

Her face softening significantly, Jade's arms droop back to her sides. Her earlier ire is totally deflated, now. Well, she's hecked up. Again. Why is she so bad at this whole 'talking to people in person' thing?

"Oh," she says, voice small. Jade reaches up to rub the back of her neck, unsure. "Sorry about that." Karkat glances away and mumbles something under his breath that could be either another admonishing swearword or a reassurance; Jade isn't sure which.

Well, this is awkward. She'll have to work hard to salvage her earlier discussion about the Omniverse with Erik! Isn't that why she and Karkat came here, anyways? To get information and to look after Gamzee. And to, er. Not do date-y date things that people would do on dates. Nothing date-y going on here at all. Especially with so many people hanging around!

Regaining a little steam, Jade turns to face Erik, grinning encouragingly at him. "Sooo, Erik! This is Karkat," she gestures between the two, still smiling. Erik doesn't seem too thrilled, but then again, neither does Karkat. "Karkat, meet Erik! And that's Gamzee! I'm meeting him for the first time, too, so it's cool. Hi Gamzee! You did really well in the tournament, you know."

The Witch of Space smiles, feeling pretty goofy. Oh well, those are the repercussions when you execute a blazing, totally-in-your-face social faux pas! Seriously, it's like there is a huge, blaring neon sign hanging over her head with an arrow pointing down upon her that declares, 'Hey, look! An idiot!'

"And this guy," she continues hastily, jerking a thumb at the knife-eared, colorful person sitting beside her. "Is Jak! He's pretty cool, too, hehe."
