Role/Location: Kingdom's Captain of the Guard, station in Minas Tirith. Sam Vimes enforces the rules and laws of the Kingdom’s metropolis. Story: Sam Vimes was born in Cockbill Street in the Rimwards part of the Shades, the poorest area of Ankh-Morpork. The place was very poor, although the crime was surprisingly low. At a young age, Sam joined a youth gang. Despite a rocky youth and a dead father, Sam joined the City Watch at the age of sixteen. What followed there-after was a nearly two and a half decade long career of enforcing the law.
By the time he arrived in the Omniverse, Sam Vimes had become Captain of the Watch, although he was permanently embattled by the society around him.
It is not entirely known by what means Vimes had arrived in the Omniverse, or much of his earliest history within the verses, only that he eventually came into the service of King Aragorn. Quickly being recruited into the City Guard of Minas Tirith, he quickly rose through the ranks in the chaos following the months after the Battle of the Black Gate, eventually becoming the Captain of the Guard.
Quickly bringing order back to the city and restoring the Guard's reputation, Samuel was praised for his efficient and uncompromising manner, being awarded many titles and a place among the nobility of the Kingdom, much to his ire.
To this day, Sam Vimes continues to serve as the Commander of the City Guard, hunting down criminals and keeping the laws of the Kingdom in Camelot. Despite his cynical and jaded demeanor, he continues to be popular among his own watchmen, although is a cause of much irritation for the nobility of the city.
