Colosseum - Spectator Thread
#32
Alexyana was so focused on watching the battle going on below that she barely registered the movement near her. When Dawnika came close though she picked up her characteristic scent and raised her head a bit to look at her. "Sorry to see that you lost..." she wanted to say, but the words remained stuck in her throat. No, Dawnika wouldn't want pity from her, she was as proud a warrior as the dragoness herself. Actually, scratch that. She was a proud warrior. Alexyana was just a fighter.

She locked eyes with her and didn't say a word when Dawnika finally spoke up. Even when Dawnika paused it took her a moment to reply "What would that be?" and let her go on afterwards. The request that then came up struck her completely unprepared. She forgot about the fight entirely and, for several seconds, just looked at Dawnika with her face an unreadable mask. Finally though, she sighed and held out one of her corndogs to her friend if she wanted to try them, as she prepared her answer with carefully chosen words.

"Don't get me wrong, Dawnika, I would be... I'd be very happy for some company on my travels around this place. Especially from someone like you, who I know and have grown to value as a friend." She paused to give herself a moment to think, biting off a piece of her own corndog as she thought of her reply. She didn't want to hurt Dawnika's feelings, but she wanted to make her point: an act of balance that required very careful wording. "Here's the "but"... or well, the buts. First, I'm pretty much a harbinger of bad luck. Demons from my world aren't known for being the friendliest, and even in a world like this, far away from home, I can feel that part of me lusting for... mishief, I suppose. I want to make soul contracts again, to collect and harvest the spirits of those I make contracts with, to regain what few powers of a demon I used to have before coming here. I want to go beyond that, too. But in either case, making contracts and drawing upon my demon magic is going to cause backlash - it's part of the nature of a demon." Her lips curled into a smile. "And besides that... don't forget that I'm a dragon. You know, just now, when I was on my way to the spectator seats, I got a minor run-in with a pair of thugs. Dragon hunters, though they were pushovers compared to you or my opponent in the Colosseum. But I suspect that there'll be more where they came from. Even here in the Omniverse being a dragon is going to spell trouble for me." She eyed Dawnika, searching for reactions, but couldn't read her expression. So, she went on.

"I draw bad luck to myself, and others near me won't be spared that. If you're seen together with me they might come after you too, and I don't want to drag you into this fight that isn't your own. You could protect me, but what advantage do you get out of it? I can at best teach you the demonic magic that I know, but I have no short-term goal or anywhere I want to be - outside of that I need to find someone who can teach me the magic I currently lack. You'd be tagging along on a quest that brings you just about no benefits, and you'd get into hairy situations sooner than you can imagine. You could instead meet up with that girl I battled - Courier, I think was her name. She's got weaponry that seemed similar to Axorn's, she could do much more for you than I can. And I'm sure that after our fight I could put in a good word for you." She wasn't entirely sure about that last part, but for her, a battle forged a chain between the contestants that could be as strong as a long friendship - or a deep rivalry. But Courier and her had fought as part of a tournament, not out of hatred for each other, so there might be a chance. Right?
