The Golden Star
#21
A slow smile crept over Sinestro’s lips.

“Perfect.”

The red-skinned alien held up his fist and the jewel of yellow that perched upon it gleamed radiantly. His body was engorged by an opaque blanket of his hallmark color which slowly shifted in form. Taking its final shape, the light died down and revealed the new attire. The deputy idly brushed off his long, patterned poncho and tipped down his wide-brimmed cowboy hat to the saiyan.

“I will need to test the limits of the ring, and I’d rather find out what it’s capable of in a situation that doesn’t endanger my interests.” He looked down and fussed with the button on his cuff, continuing, “Without a central power battery, the ring will only be utilizing the local fear of the area.” He looked up, content with his sleeve, “I suspect that, until I am able to create a central power battery, the ring’s charge will be… unreliable, at best.”

Orion grunted and tilted his chin up, looking down his nose at the lantern. “Then shouldn’t you save the ring’s charge for a situation when you might need it?”

“I’ve made it this far,” he deflected, now leaning down and smoothing his dark blue jeans into his tall, dark brown leather boots. “I feel as though these people may need to see a display that might inspire some... respect?” He stood, stamping the heel on the hardwood floor. “In this case, the use of the ring might inspire more fear than it uses? More of a public audience might be preferable.” A coil of sadism presented itself as he completed his thought, “Best to do so where everyone can see.”

“Heh,” Orion laughed, not a shred of humor in his voice, “must be fairly confident if you’re willing to fight in front of the people you intend to lead. A loss in front of them might lose their respect, and worse, their fear.”

Sinestro was forced to stop for a moment, realizing he had never considered the possibility that he might lose. He smirked, and then chortled, wiping the possibility from his mind. Slowly, he made his way to the door, pushing it open and looking to his companion, “After you.”
