"Weeeeeell, yeah you can go and jump in on the ol' data streams yourself, if you really want to," Nelson offered helpfully in answer. "It's real nifty, if you like that kinda thing, I guess. Little tooooooo much for me, though...all those numbers and information and stuff."
"That's because you're allergic to math!" Clark quipped, nudging his fellow in the ribs. They both shared a brief chuckle.
"Well, yeah, anyway, moving on to things that matter..." Roberts grumbled. "There's not much to tell about the gates, really. Step through one, and you're in another Verse. I'd be careful for your first couple trips through one, they can be a little disorienting until you get used to them. Nelson there actually fell flat on his face his first time through one."
Nelson choked back a disagreement with a sudden cough, shaking his head in embarrassment.
"And yeah, we're Secondaries, alright," Clark butted in again. "You'd never see so many guys in doofy white armor -- terrifying as that armor can be, with its vague resemblance to a skull and all, mind you -- if we weren't, y'know?"
"Heeeeeeeeeey, man, I like the armor! It's spiffy."
"Enough!" Roberts passed a hand over his helmet's visor, letting out a deep breath. "Apologies for these two. Like I said, it can get rough out here sometimes, so we have to keep our spirits up somehow." He held out a hand and shook Connor's as the other man extended it. "Name's Roberts. I'd offer my full Id and everything, but....it's kind of a mouthful and no one really cares." He jerked a thumb at the other two. "The one who keeps cracking the bad jokes is Clark. And the one who's brain is stuck in low gear is Nelson. Welcome to the Omniverse, Connor."
"If you're looking for work in the security field, you could always see about signing up with the EPD. They're always looking for new recruits, and Primes are almost never turned down if they've got the right skills. It's up to you, but we can point you the right way if you'd be interested."
