The Final Question
#3
It was a moment of weakness. To put it simply, I was in the throes of a speechless, stupefied awe.

This, by definition, appearance, and...and everything! This is Himmel!

A sound slips past my lips, a strange combination of a groan of relief and a startled yelp. I find it rather difficult not to weep with joy as I fall to my knees in a dramatic fashion, probably earning a couple of stares.

The most prominent thoughts going through my mind include:

Thank God this idiotic, trying journey is almost over.

How does this place even EXIST?!

WHY ARE WE HERE!?

AM I ALLOWED TO KILL MYSELF OFF YET!?

Oh wait, we are almost finished with our journey. That would most likely not be beneficial.

I suddenly, all at the same time, feel this intense migraine and a strong surge of relief. This merely from standing on a cloud. The scientist in me cannot comprehend this place, this heaven, this whatever it is. My head low to the cloud, my hands squeeze the white fluff that constitutes it.

This is too illogical.

“Pi-ka?”

What?

“What?”

“Pika Pi!”

I look up from my kneeling position to see-

Blitz!

“Seine Blitz! Ohhh I was so worried about you my little shocky shock maus!”

Crow snickers at my comment.

"I'm so happy for you and yer lil rat, quack, but we're in the bleedin' Oververse. Have some dignity aye?"

Let it be known that I have no affinity for this mouse. It is simply a tool, a method of defense. It is NOT my companion, my friend, or my pet.

“Pi-ka-chu!”

The mousey little thing nuzzles into the space between my head and shoulders, the residue static from his-

IT

It is an it.

Its little red cheeks cause the hairs on my neck to stand up. I resist the urge to smother it with a hug, and instead do nothing as it hops its way to a resting place atop my head. It clings to me, satisfied with its excellent view. I rise to my full stature, standing up straight. Blitz voices his happiness. When I have my wits more or less about me again, I realize that Christa has absconded from the main group, bounding over the clouds. It is true...I feel a sense of weightlessness in this place, but I dare not test it.

But I do

Hesitantly, I hop in place, and find myself floating for a moment off the surface before settling back down on the cloud. I cry out an evident discovery.

“ES GIBT KEINE LOGIK AN DIESER STELLE!”

Blitz calls out in agreement. I earn more strange stares. Perhaps I really have gone insane.

I watch in mild intrigue as Christa accosts a celestial being. The angel acts rather nonchalant and almost...benevolent. It is a little unsettling after all the trials we have faced. I say nothing about this, letting things play out as they would. Instead, I focus my attention to another cloud. Atop this cloud sits a large domed structure with a lens protruding from an opening.

An observatory.

Science.

SCIENCE!

I sigh in relief. Science. Logic.

But probably not.

-----

A quick mention of where I am going and a few cloud jumps later, I stand in awe of this structure. Different beings come and go from the Observatory. Some wave hello to me, unnervingly enough, using my name. Others simply go about their business. I stumble through the ornate doors, feeling a bit modest and uncomfortable in my dirty, well worn clothes.

I am greeted warmly nonetheless. All manner of beings take an interest in me. The angels ask me questions about myself, my journey, and many other things. They are surprised to know that I am a secondary, and that a whole motley crew of us were able to push through the machinations of the Tangled Green and the Void to make it to the “Oververse” as they call it. I tell them what I feel comfortable sharing of my journey, which is more or less all of it; except the visions I saw in the Swamp of Sadness. Those will stay under lock and key. I tell them of my life back home as well. Many show the same amount of sympathy and compassion about the hardships I have faced in the trenches just as they did with my trials in the Omniverse.

It is a strange feeling.

In return, they show me the technologie they have amassed, and I am simply stunned at the advanced nature of it all. It took my breath away.

No, really. Quite literally, there was a machine that converts carbon dioxide into tiny living organisms that they called Cordix.

They act as a strange sort of...nanoscopic worker, similar to plankton or even bacteria. These creatures, however, have a strange hive mind. They can work cohesively and coherently as one. Their combined strength and speed and general well-roundedness make them an invaluable tool. It is brilliant! I so very much wanted a sampling of the little bestien, but I refrained from voicing my requests. I already knew the answer.

Admittedly, however, I gave just as much knowledge as I had received. The angels were enthralled with my pistol, Boomhilda, and were enraptured with Kemat’s Bite and Blitz. These beings had little in the violent uses of the 115 infused pistol and my Lightning Staff. What they found so interesting about the weapons were their inner mechanics, how the staff was able to use the crystal as a focusing point or how my pistol was able to convert the metal bullets into a beam of piercing energy.

Blitz had his own fun in the Laboratory. The little beastie huschte around the big open room, darting this way and that. He made friends, even. With angels no less! I found it simply astonishing. The angels were so intrigued about the conductivity the mouse held. He was literally a living conduit!

These are just some of the many, many wonders that I was exposed to in that observatory. I spent so much time in there learning about science, real, true science that I have never experienced before. I admit, I did not want to leave.

So I did not. Not for quite some time.
