Ash stood behind as Jaixe let his feet carry him back through his own past. She wasn't able to see what he was seeing, nor was she capable of reading minds. But she was pretty good at reading body language, and he seemed lost in thought. Not the same ambitious thought that had driven him to quickly foot the miles they had to get her, he seemed to be recalling something to mind. She felt as if she was intruding on that, so she moved to the left to explore another section of the archives.
She found stairs that lead to another floor, and decided to start there while Jaixe took the first floor. The might even leap frog the floors, alternating the floors as they went to work. She found roughly the same things up here, work places pre-used by explorers in the past. As to what they had been looking for whenever it was they sat at this chair to find, there was no clue except the books which were stacked up at the work place. She closed those that were open, glanced at each title, but found none of them helpful to her.
She moved on to the next area, doing the same things, curious about what the past had to say. This carried her all the way to the back of the second floor, where she was lured in by the soft humming of machines and a glow against the wood.
Framed by shelves full of books, was a large sleek metallic door. It was on a slight lean, but sunk into the wall so it didn't hinder anyone's path. The glowing was a dimming and brightening light from the small window, it was a blue that almost matched her lightening. On the front there was a large cut out square, which Ash instinctively touched, and it shifted under the slightest touch. When she pulled her hand away she heard the locks disengaging, steam releasing, and finally the door sunk down and slide into its open position.
The inside was a foam cushion, sculpted to look like something more comfortable with button details. Ash stuck her head in, heard the humming again, and took a guess to what it was. She climbed in, laid against the foam, which wasn't completely solid though, and took a deep breath, inhaling the smell of the interior before sighing it out. It smelt.. Like new leather. Not much different from the rest of building. Her blank eyes looked around on the interior, and she spotted a button to close the device, which she pressed, and relaxed against the cushion. As it closed, she imagined people freaking out about it. Panicking as the door slide over the opening, then locked itself back into place. She could hear the ghosts of screams.. Or she thought she could.
The blue light turned on, and stayed a consistent brightness, a medium level of what she'd seen earlier. It washed her over, and then light just above the window turned on, and sent multiple lines of lights over her, scanning her, deciding if it would accept her. If it didn't, it wouldn't be the first time the tiefling was rejected. But after a series of beeps, she could tell something was going to happen. She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath, moments before the gateway to the dataverse was ripped open behind her, and she fell through.
It was a lot like the actual gate she had crossed to get to Coruscant, but instead of feeling less like Jacking In, this felt EXACTLY like jacking in. Her physical form became weightless, her mind sparked into over drive, and she felt a warming sensation in the back of her neck where the wires would have connected to her mind. There was a row of flashing lights before the thread that connected her mental state and physical state would snap.
Only it never did, instead her body fell through and her mind was left behind for a pause. Then it rushed straight back into her body, and for a moment she experienced what she suspected was an outer body experience. Her feet touched solid ground, and Ash hesitated for a moment before opening her eyes to see another place that resembled the inside of the library, but instead of browns and dust, she saw icons, titles, colors, and a very clean and organized place. She was in the datatverse.. Specifically in the Datavese Library. She knew this before she had to ask, in seconds she had more information processed than she could hope to get out of books.
Ash smiled. She liked this feeling.
In the Dataverse, Ash could spend hours researching without feeling like she was actually spending hours on a project. And this way excited her more than a book would. Good thing too. By the time she returned with names of important Primes good and bad, which didn't take that long at all with a familiar medium, Jaixe had a few more specific things for her to do.
At some point her surprisingly quickness alerted the heartless, and she explained that she found a terminal and that she worked best with computers and that kind of thing. It didn't quit go that simply, but just slap some attitude and spunk into the mix and you got pretty close to what their conversation about it actually sounded like. Even with her new toy, the information took hours to collect and decipher. Both sides working on it, Ash sometimes in Coruscant by herself on the other side of the building, or as a backboard for Jaixe to bounce his own ideas off of. Or the tiefling did it herself in cyberspace.
Again, the elegance of their conversations were far from two scholars from having a civilized conversation about a mystery or a sharing ideals and talking them out in a way that make anyone listening envious of their vocabulary, wit, and intelligence. While both of them had a great deal of wit and intelligence, they both had a lot of personality to the way they had conversations. Which was achieved in short debates, or drawn out discussions. Neither of them rose their voices higher than the hushed tones you naturally use while in a library or museum, and Jaixe's patience only wore thin with her a couple times.
Despite the minor set backs of getting frustrated and having to return to an idea later by himself, Jaixe and Ash made progress worthy of calling an achievement. And in the end, the man on the other side of the table from her seemed satisfied. The demon like girl gave her whole body a stretch, her feet taking up a good deal of space under the table, her arms lifted up to the sky, and her whole body felt deliciously tight fore a few seconds before she let her body go limp in the chair. Where she remained leaning back and staring at the space above them, only bringing her legs back from hogging all of the space.
She probably would have staid there.. Maybe fallen asleep for a quick power nap, but then an electronic sound signed the moment she received a message on her Comm. It hadn't been very loud on the outside, but she heard it in her head clearly. She pulled out her screen, curious because the only person she's traded connecting info with was Jaixe.
Unknown: Hello again, StormDemon..
Unknown: I see you found the Dataverse, this pleases me. I am only sad that I didn't get to meet you in person.
Ash's reaction to the message was a tilt of her head, so that her earring on the one side touched her shoulder. It was cold, and a minor distraction to her thoughts. She'd love to say she didn't know who this was, and just spam trash him, but that wasn't the case. The blue characters on her screen were all to recognizable..
StormDemon: i was doing a school paper today, i was there a lot. why didn't you come to see me?
Unknown: Oh, I did see you. I was there. I just didn't approach you.
StormDemon: that's what my life was missing, a cyber stalker.
Unknown: Cute.
Unknown: I noticed you were picking at pieces of the old text, that must be a very interesting 'school paper'.
Unknown: That kind of research might get you banished. And then who will I get to talk to?
StormDemon: you mean who will you get to watch, in a creepy way from the dataverse?
There was a break in the flow of messages at this point, she assumes he's trying to decide how to deal with her comment.
Unknown: I thought since you had such an interest in this place, you might be interested in some extra information.
Unknown: I'll show you the public report and bounty, but what they won't tell you is why a AWOL space marine is so deserving of your attention.
Unknown: In his possession he has a certain device, that I think will make Jacking-In so much easier for you.
Ash notes the use of unique but familiar terminology. In the meantime, he did just that. Sent her the public files, and then one which didn't open, and denied her access. With some quick digits at work, a her thought-fast coding, she got to work on opening it without hesitation. This was about the time Jaixe was truly finished and glanced over at her. She only saw him because of how transparent her screen was. He spoke of their success, but she barely heard him.
There was a silent alarm, that wasn't so silent in her head, as she messed up and grazed the sides of the pixels an unauthorized user like herself wasn't allowed to see. She bit her lip and threw down her own lock outs for the opposing side. With haste she continued to hack the file, getting as deep as she could as the alarm in her ears kept getting louder.
The second she broke through she dragged a code to it, and then yanked out, cleaning her finger prints off as she went, not even thinking about how different the world was from her's, but not risking it either. She felt the sweat she would have if she was physically attempting to steal something and was inches from being caught. It could be seen on her brow, and glazed her chest. It was at this point she realized she quit breathing, and let it all out in a heavy pant. She then looked up and had to remind herself where she was, catching her breath. Her eyes dart around anxiously before she settled on her partner that sat across the table. He was calmly typing away at his own communicator.
She noticed after she could breathe again, that the alarm was gone, and she got away..
Unknown: Impressive..
Unknown: Very Impressive.
Seconds later, she got an e-mail. Attached to it was a copy of the file she'd just broke into. Her code would then delete itself from the program, destroying the only evidence she had been there. She skimmed through the details of it, and found it interesting, but that wasn't the question. There was a sound of something being thrown against the table, she had tossed the closed up version towards Jaixe, and as if she planned it, it snapped open just in front of him. "How valuable are artefacts here?" She asked, curiously. They sounded like a specialty item..
She found stairs that lead to another floor, and decided to start there while Jaixe took the first floor. The might even leap frog the floors, alternating the floors as they went to work.
