Waiting for Pirate Man
#37
AAfter having chased off the xenophobes, Mireya figured they’d earned a few moments of relative peace and quiet, but any fleeting chance of calm came to an end when the primes started to pile into the Nexus.

At first, they just dropped into the waters of the fountain or appeared in the area around it. Since she didn’t have to worry about a maniac with metal wings trying to take her head off, the half-night elf had been able to eavesdrop on most of their conversations. They spoke of hidden verses, relics of great power, guardians, and most seemed frustrated over one thing or another.

As those primes started to appear, others slowly began to filter in from the many surrounding verses. Most of them didn’t seem happy in the slightest, and almost all of them were dressed for war. While Princess Bon Bon had been driven off, there was no telling when this new situation in the Nexus might explode.

The princess isn’t in good shape, either. Mireya scowled, although she did smile faintly when Desco showed back up from the Fountain. The demon-girl started to spout tales of artefacts and heroes and ‘a spirit,’ which seemed in line with what the others had been talking about as well. Had there been some kind of culling recently?

Before she could inform the princess that they should considering withdrawing back to the Tangled Green, Mireya heard a familiar, high-pitched voice ring out through the growing crowd of primes.

“MIREYA! MIREYA, OVER HERE!”

Turning her focus back toward the Fountain of Infinity, the half-night elf smirked faintly at the sight of the mouse king rushing toward her, frantically waving his hands as if he feared there were any other Mireyas in the vicinity. Before she could open her mouth to address Mickey, his feet had already left the ground. With something halfway between a chuckle and a grunt, Mireya bent down and caught the mouse, whose momentum caused them both to twirl around as he squeezed his thin little limbs around her waist.

Once that strange and heart warming moment was over, the half-night elf set Mickey down onto his feet and took a knee to look the king in the eyes. Despite the tenseness of the Nexus, the mouse seemed unaffected for the moment as he pushed a hand into the woman’s shoulder.

Que pasa?!

Mireya blinked a few times at the sound of mouse’s accent, but once that moment subsided, she shook her head and replied.

Bien y tú?

Tenía un loco de unos días, mi amiga!!”

The half night-elf smiled at the mouse’s enthusiasm. “You’re going to have to tell me all about it over some of your wife’s lovely tea.”

At the mention of his consort, Mickey’s eyes went wide as he glanced through the mobs in an attempt to figure out which direction led to the Tangled Green. “I should go back before she gets too worried.” Before the mouse could step passed Mireya, she put an arm out to stop him, prompting a furrowed brow from her small companion. “What’s up?”

“Your wife left for the Dunes,” the woman replied. “She heard about the Proto Mouse and went looking for clues.”

Mickey’s eyes—still widened—shifted along with his head as he slowly turned to look in the direction of the Endless Dunes. “Oh, man, I was just there!” He replied. “Well... just there a few days ago.”

“Months.”

“Wait, months?”

The half-night elf chuckled. “You and Blues left Ambrosia probably five or six months ago.”

Before Mickey could blurt out something he’d regret, the pair were distracted by a heavy shape crashing down into the fountain. Without words, they advanced toward the Fountain of Infinity and watched as a familiar boy popped out of the water.

With a groan, Blues spat out a mouthful of water and sagged over the edge of the fountain. The preteen machine was dressed in some sort of classical armor—bronze chestplate, greaves, vambrances, and even a helmet with red feathers adorning its crest. After a moment to catch his ‘breath,’ the robot looked up and grinned from underneath a pair of sunglasses. “Hey.”

Mireya smiled, but just as some words were trying to make their way out of her mouth, Mickey put a hand on her belt and another on the robot’s wrist.

“C’mon, we gotta go find Minnie!” He declared before half-dragging his mechanical friend from the Fountain of Infinity.
