Giving a helping hand.
#5
Picking at the shoulder armour Casey was now muttering under his breath about how flimsy it was. He was really starting to think this stuff was just for show, it didn't feel anything close to what he would expect armour to feel like. It had almost no weight to it and there was about zero padding. He looked up at his new partner and the thing was just staring at him as usual. Casey couldn't help but wonder what the hell was going on in the damn mind. This not robot thing was harder to read then Shredder, but then again shredhead was just a dude in some shiny face covering armour. Whatever this thing was it wasn't even close to human.

Speaking of, neither were half the occupants of this transport thing. We're not in New York anymore, Toto.

Making his way onto the transport Casey did what he was told and tapped his holo-tag thingy onto a counsel or something and a light flashed green. Guess that meant he was good to go! Kopaka followed suit and they found a free spot on the transport.

Well, the didn't really find it more as the people there seemed to clear out of their way and make one, Casey was beginning to wonder about these troopers he was now apparently a part of. The city was clean, there seemed to be little to no crime, but the people were kind of afraid of them. Then again people were always afraid of the cops, no matter where you went. Except for maybe Canada, but that didn't count. Those maple syrup eating freaks always seemed way to nice for Casey to trust them.

Whatever.

Casey turned to his partner in, well I guess it would be not crime? “Where we headed again, shell head?”

The Toa regarded Casey for a bit before speaking. ”Tier four. Read the file.” There was a brief pause before it spoke again. ”My name is Kopaka, not Shell head.”

“Right right, I got it Shell head.” Casey said without a second thought. Rummaging around through his golf bag Casey found the data pad or whatever he had stored there. “Let's see, four, four.... here it is! Greed, blah blah blah, organized crime, protection rackets, and neon lights. Man,it's starting to sound like home! NYC two point oh!”

Stuffing the device back where he got it from Casey looked out the window of the transport. It seemed that this place was layered, the further you went down the less Law and Ordery it got. The lower the tier, the more fun there was for Casey to have. No one could see it but under that hockey mask of his Casey was starting to grin. For the first time since he had started to settle down with his family he was feeling the rush of excitement again, the one that came from going into dangerous situations with only a handful of second hand equipment with only your own strength and wits to get you out of it.

The transport had made a few stops, the citizens on board shuffling past Kop and Casey without making eye contact as the left. Casey saw that when they got off they seemed to move away from the bus with a bit more speed then people normally would. Again, whatever.

Finally they had reached their stop and the two of them left the transport. Kopaka pointed out the lift to the lower tiers to Casey and the two of them headed off towards it. Luckily it was only a few minutes away, though before they got to it Casey pulled his partner aside.

“Listen, I am all for rushing in and busting heads, but we have to get a system down first man” Kopaka just stared at Casey, as he always did, making the former vigilante wonder exactly how this things thought process worked.

After a slight pause Casey got his reply. ”I am not sure what you mean. We go down, we find the target, and then we detain him.”

“Shell head, er, I mean Kop, if we just go down and start throwing shit about we are going to get no where. We need to good cop, bad cop this thing! Or maybe in our case bad cop and badder cop?” Casey scratched the top of his head and then shrugged. “One of us busts heads, the other is the voice of reason. That shit works all the time on tv!”

Casey was really going off limited information here, but to him it sounded like a good plan. The whole reason he had started doing what he did was because of all those procedural cop shows and shit, though Casey had taken it a step further and added in a bit more violence. It worked back in NYC, why couldn't it work here?

Expecting an answer all Casey got was silence as Kopaka turned back towards the lift and started walking again, causing Casey to jog after him to catch up. “Whatever man. You'll see.”

As they got closer to the gate Casey saw two troopers standing next to it and waved to them as they got closer. One of them brought up and waved them over. The trooper took a step towards them and checked their id tags and all that stuff.

”So new recruits to fight the good fight. You chose wisely. So, what are you....” the words trailed off as the trooper noticed Kopaka wasn't exactly human.”Er, you two doing?”

”We require access to tier four to apprehend the fugitive known as Michael Smith.” Casey just nodded and then pointed to Kopaka with a thumb.

“What he said.”

”First day and diving in head first, huh? Good luck with that, things have been pretty rough in the lower tiers lately.” Casey just nodded and headed towards the lift. They waited for a few moments for the door to open and then the two of them stepped in and turned around to face the door as it closed. As soon as they were sealed inside and the lift started moving Casey turned to Kopaka again.

“I'm telling ya man, Good cop and bad cop,” Casey wasn't sure exactly what the sound his partner had just made was but he was guessing it was a sigh or something.

”Exactly which of these cops would you be?” Casey just shrugged his shoulders.

“Good cop of course.” He pointed at Kopaka and poked his chest. “You aren't exactly what we call a people person.”

Kopaka just turned away from Casey and let the matter drop, the rest of the elevator ride went on in that awkward silence thing these two had going on. Finally when the doors opened Casey was hit with some familiar sights and smells. Yelling, busy street traffic, and of course pollution. He took a step out of the lift and breathed deep letting the air fill his lungs.

Yep, just like home. Casey was going to fit in here just fine.

Casey could feel the eyes of the people that passed by watching him, though it him it seemed like they were being fixed on the badge on the shoulder things. He had seen those looks back in New York too, when a cop was somewhere he might not want to be. Casey just let it slide and pulled out the data pad, tossing it to Kopaka.

“Check this thing over Kop, maybe there is something else we can use in the file.” Casey tried to think of the stuff they usually looked for in all those cop shows. “Last know address, known associates, some shit like that?”
