Don't... don't brake-check people. It's stupid and dangerous.
I get that it's not your fault (you're following the law). Much easier/safer to simply let off the gas and slow down until they take the hint and either go around you or back off.
You hurting someone (or yourself) won't help anybody, regardless of how righteous your anger might be. Remember, that dumbass behind you might have a kid or a dog in the car or something, and it's not their fault the driver's a dick.
Also, sorry about your dad. That sounds like a rough situation. I hope if you haven't gotten out of that situation that you're able to soon.
