The problem I have with this is that...well, you're essentially interested in switching to characters that you've already switched out of. :? Not that it isn't possible to find renewed inspiration for an old character (Ditto and Omni can attest to that). But if you lost the will to write as those characters before, you need to ask yourself whether there is a possibility that it will happen again.
Plus, I agree with the others. I think you could use the limitations of your character to your advantage and have the story not just be about the sword, but also about the poor soul that decided to take it with them. But if you don't find that particularly compelling, then I suppose a more conventional character would do you good.
