I think it's really easy to get grass-is-greener syndrome with characters. I honestly feel like the more often you switch the worse it gets, because the only thing that's going to make a character feel like "yours" is when you invest a lot of history in. Up till that point, there will always be a character that is funnier, has cooler powers, is more perfect in some way. Hell even I consider making new characters often. There are so many cool ones!
My advice as a very long-term roleplayer who's switched away from Samus and decided she was too hard to write several times before the Omniverse: Stick with Jon. Make it work. You'll be fine.
