You could also add that the strength is linked to effort, with something like 'Magneto can focus intently, strengthening the barrier at the cost of expending more energy/stamina. That's a common 'trope' (reoccurring theme) with many Moves in the Omniverse, offensive or defensive.
One other very important question (sorry, but defensive moves are tricky) -- Can Magneto attack from within the sphere?
