After a bit of thinking, Michael decided on his next plan of action. First, look through the festival again. If anyone had particularly big claws, he’d point them out to Charmander, and see if they were the one. If not, they’d continue onwards. If the festival proved fruitless, they’d do another look through the coliseum itself. Michael got the feeling they’d have to explore more than just the stands this time, and just hoped it wouldn’t be too hard when they get to that point. If they couldn’t find their shapeshifter there either, then… Michael would make another plan at that point. That is, if they don’t get caught lurking around in areas they’re not allowed.
…Or he could just explain the situation to the guards, the thought suddenly occurs to Michael. Yeah, that’s actually a much better plan of action. With Charmander in hand, Michael stands up to go find a guard so that the people who’re meant to deal with these kinds of things could do their jobs.
“Oh, you there!” A voice suddenly sounded from behind the pair, and Michael turned to find a pink, egg shaped pokémon hurrying towards them. Michael recognized her as the coliseum’s head… nurse thing from his quick adventure through the dataverse not too long ago. He didn’t quite remember the term.
“I believe I recognize you from Aipom’s twitter post. Am I correct?” Mostly confused, Michael nodded. He didn’t see any reason not to trust her yet, seeing as she was a head nurse probably and all. Though why she would be running around out here and not helping patch up injured coliseum fighters eluded him.
“Splendid! Come with me, then. We at the coliseum can take over from here; you needn’t trouble yourself any longer.”
“Oh, thank you.” Blissey held out her arms as if expecting him to hand Charmander over, but for now he passively refused. He began walking to signal his intent, and the three of them started towards… wherever Blissey was taking them. Michael wasn’t really sure where the coliseum was, but he assumed that’s where they were headed.
A while of walking later, Michael felt a little uneasy. He knew he felt unnecessarily uneasy at times, he remembered that for some reason, but reasoned as long as he didn’t act like an idiot there was no reason he couldn’t raise his guard a little. He kept his outward demeanor as casual as he could while bracing himself for any unexpected situations, eyes flitting about in case anything suspicious was going on nearby.
Wait… It suddenly occurred to Michael that Blissey had vanished. How had he not noticed tha-?
THUD.
One well-placed hit to the back of the skull was all it took to send Michael to the ground, unconscious. Charmander fell from his arms, whimpering from the sudden, painful meeting with the stone floor.
Rolling over, the child stared right up into the face that haunted his nightmares chuckling in amusement. Before Charmander could get out a scream a clawed paw clamped over his mouth, the other roughly yanking him from the ground.
“Kekeke… Stupid humans; so easy to fool, so easy defeat.” Zoroark cackled as he stole the small orange bundle away into the shadows, muffled screams soon vanishing into silence.
Michael lay very unconscious on the cold ground far from the crowds of the festival, left behind like forgotten trash.
He wasn’t going to be happy when he woke up.
