"Who?" I asked as Guu gave me a name that meant nothing to me. I suspected that she thought I honestly didn't care who it was that was trying to kill her. And fair enough, a good chunk of me didn't have since I didn't expect to run into any of these cronies again once I had returned to the Vasty Deeps and was on my way home. But I still thought about the safety of others. I would be a terrible soldier if I didn't.
"The one with the crown?" The bubble gum girl answered, and it immediately popped in my head.
"Oh, the bitch that was hiding behind the fountain? Yeah okay" With that answered, Guu gave the why of why the teenage asshat had taken such an interest in her. I didn't know how the 8 year old had gotten Ambrosia other than an assumption that it had somehow fallen into her lap after Gilgamesh chased the majority of the population off. That her charge had been taken from a group of righteous windbags explained a lot, especially why the younger generation of the town had decided to stick with Guu rather than return back home. I know I would have stayed in that situation, if the description of the place was any indication.
"Yeah, I've known a couple people like that in my life. Spineless wimps, the lot of them. If they ever fought someone, it was never against someone they thought could fight back." Well, thankfully there was always someone like me around... although I realized that wouldn't be me for long "Before I get to Omni, I'll be sure to look into getting some people to help guard Ambrosia"
I glanced over to one of the other fighters, one "Toybox Girl", as she floated over to us and introduced herself. Or tried to, anyway, as he suddenly took a fascination with me. Or rather, my weapons, as I could trace her stare to my BFG. My own look over her quickly revealed a very odd set of equipment, a massive backpack armed with weapons normally carried by vehicle attached to a girl about half my size. I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow behind my helmet, until she summoned the BFG, MY BFG, in one of the backpack's arm and I nearly jumped in to rip it away from her. Thankfully she showed enough thought to aim it at the blank white sky of the Nexus.
"I call it the Big Fucking Gun" I couldn't stop the worry that came out of my voice, along with my hands held out in caution, despite the fact that she had already proven to have experience from the fight as well as her confidence as she spoke of similar weapons. It was clear she had the training, and I ha just had to kick my brain a little to realize that. "Its official designation is the Blast Force Generator 9000, but literally no one I know calls it that"
"Actually, it's small for its power output compared to the weapons I mentioned before" She explained as she looked up to physically examine it. A part of me felt insulted to have my pride and joy referred to as "small", but I mentally squished that and just answered with an annoyed grunt and a hidden snarl "Your civilization must be very advanced to have this level of miniaturization"
"Uh...thanks?" Was the only thing I could come up with as I scratched at the back of my helmet. How DOES one respond to that? I looked around to see if there was anyone else who heard this and thought the same, only to see Guu had moved off to someone else and was in the middle of a hug with a-
Demon.
DEMON.
DEMON!
The entirety of my body reacted in reflex, an almost fluid motion as I spun to get my self facing towards the monster and my hand gripped around the wooden grip my shotgun as rage overtook everything else. My teeth were let upbarred as I thought to rend the world a bloody red with the blood of the hellspawn. I had the barrel half way out of the holster before any form of logic tried to hold me back, as the fact that Guu was between me and the creature was plain as day. A small whisper of memory reminded me that the pink princess had mentioned a friendly demon before, and basic logic pointed the purple tentacled girl out as them.
"Something wrong?" I heard TBG behind me, and I let out a long, long sigh.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine" I lied through my teeth as I dropped the shotgun back into its leather holster "I'll be fine" That's a bit more to the truth. I grabbed my PDA and scanned through my emails in order to get my mind of my near execution.
Nothing from Jones yet, and while I was in something of a hurry to leave the Omniverse I didn't want to just twiddle my thumbs while I waited. Might as well stay until then.
Of course, I regretted that decision when someone else joined into the area and headed for us. Mickey Mouse. I remembered him, although now he wasn't covered in mud and blood and otherwise wasn't about to reduced to atoms by the weapon in my hands. The last fight at the end of Dante's Abyss was not a good place for first impressions, and while I spend the time since to forget about it there he was and there the memory came roaring back. He remembered too, as step immediately slowed when we locked eyes to visor and a brief moment of awkwardness filled the air with until he thankfully managed to find a distraction in another one of the fighters.
"Wait. Hey, Guu!" I called out to the strange girl as she still talked to her friend "Is the with you, too?" I pointed the mouse "Man, good thing I haven't visited Ambrosia, I probably would have been run out on a rail"
