The God-Mind was torn from its stand off with Link as several Syntex employees got between the two primes, obligatory smiles plastered on their faces.
"Excuse us gentlemen, but if you would please leave the area? The Lobby is closing down." a young man said to Nealaphh, clearly perturbed to be staring the shadow directly in the face. Nealaphh peered down at the fearful boy and narrowed its eyes.
No.
"B-but sir...ma'am...uh..."
Speak or leave.
"Uh...prime! Karl resets the Dante Verse after all guests leave. If you stay here, you'll be erased!"
Nealaphh quirked a non-existent brow at the human. There was a possibility that this boy was bluffing to try and force Nealaphh away from its quarry, but then again, there was no telling what kind of control Karl Jak had over this place. It was worth inquiring about.
So this place is entirely incarnated by Karl Jak's will? How does he achieve this?
"Uh...Omnilium! Lots and lots of Omnilium!"
Yes. I had surmised that much. How is it that Karl Jak is able to carve an entire layer of the Omniverse out for himself?
"I don't know prime! I'm just a secondary."
How were you summoned?
"...I uh...I don't remember. I just...I just work here okay?" the man said, his voice becoming shakey. Nealaphh was becoming amused.
You have no memories of your home? Your family?
"Of course I do! They...I'm...uh...I'm..."
Nealaphh squinted in glee at the secondary's confusion. Aside from a source of amusement, however, this secondary was providing Nealaphh with crucial information. Secondaries, it would seem, could essentially be seen as artificial life, in so far as the fact that they did not exist until the Omniverse gave them a reason to do so. Yes, they were indeed fully sentient, and yes, they were fully organic and capable of reproducing. But surely an 'organism' that could be summoned or dismissed on a whim could not be considered 'natural'. Or perhaps it could? It was an argument of semantics that Nealaphh would have to take up at a later point in time. The god-mind took this opportunity to glance up at the Hero of Time, only to catch a glimpse of the Hylian slipping through the portal without casting a single eye in Nealaphh's direction.
...
Ah, well. At least Nealaphh knew that Link was in the Omniverse now, and that was good enough for the moment. The god-mind decided that it would be wise to bring evidence of Link's presence in the Omniverse back to Darunia, so as to encourage the Goron chief to respect his end of the bargain. Without giving the befuddled Syntex youth any further notice, the god-mind strode silently towards the portal, giving the portal engineer time to calibrate the rippling aperture to deliver the shadow once again to the smoking crags of the Ashen Steppes.
Before stepping through, Nealaphh did glance at the limp and bloody form of Millie, dangling in Behemoth's arm like some macabre life sized doll. The god-mind would have to make a note of recovering any new data from the thrall-mind at some point, but for now, it seemed to be in safe hands.
At least...safe by Nealaphh's standards.
...
Millie could perceive only darkness, trapped within her own mind. She was vaguely aware that her body was unconscious, but aside from that, there was no telling what was happening to her. So, Millie simply lied dormant within the darker recesses of her mind, doing her best to keep her distance between her own thoughts and the acrid, pungent mentality of the thrall-mind. She suddenly found herself bemused; it was like being forced to share a bed with an angry lover after a long night of arguing.
What really concerned the girl was whether or not she would remember any of this once she woke up. Could this other...thing...erase or suppress her memories the same way it did her control and will? Maybe...maybe she could ask it. The prospect of having a conversation with whatever monster was jammed into her brain was frightening, since up until this point she had been able to avert any sort of existential panic by labeling this affliction as some variety of bizarre insanity. Actively talking with it made it seem more...real. But better to know your demons. That was a saying or something, right?
...Hey.
...
...HEY
...
...HEY I'M TALKING TO YOU, PUNK!
...you have my attention.
...OH, SO...uh...
...there is something you wish to say?
...ahhh...I mean, hell yeah there is! This is my brain! Get out!
...No. This is MY brain. Hush.
...you're a bastard.
...
...yeah that's what I said!
...there's no use in fighting. You cannot fight yourself.
You're not a part of me!
Yes I am.
Prove it!
I don't need to prove anything to the voices in my head.
That's not what I am...
That's not...what I am...
...what are you?
...I'm human!
Just because you're in a human brain doesn't make you human!
I was here first!
No, I was.
Stop trying to confuse me...
I'm so confused...
Yes I...no...no I am not!
Prove it.
...I don't have to prove anything to the voices in my head!
Shut up.
No YOU shut up!
This is my brain, I do what I want!
...go away.
I can't go away inside my own head...where am I supposed to go?
Back to wherever you came from.
And where is that?
I don't know...
Wait...do I?
Do I know where I'm from?
Yes.
Of course I do!
Where am I from?
I told you I don't know!
...you seem confused. Do you or do you not know where you are from?
Wait...I...
...
I...
Millie let out a mental scream of frustration and fled from the conversation, fleeing back into her most precious memories and private thoughts. What just happened? It was as if...for a moment...her thoughts weren't her own.
Was that how this thing won? Confusing her to the point she didn't even know what she was thinking?
What do I do...
I don't know.
SHUT! UP!
