Negi had just gone through the portal and was wandering around the lobby when he heard a gruff voice.
"Hey, get to the barracks." A guard, wearing a Syntex uniform, pointed towards to the elevator towards the back.
He pushed his way through the eclectic crowd. The elevator was flanked by two guards, silent watching him.
"Negi Springfield"
"We'll take any weapons you have."
"I don't have any."
"You're contestant number forty-four. You'll find everything you need in your room." One of the guards entered a passcode on a nearby control panel and Negi entered the elevator.
The inside of the facility was spartan. There were no fixtures on the concrete walls and the intermittent light dimly lit the halls. The place felt like a prison. He went down the hall marked 41-50 and found his room. Inside, there was a small cot and not much else. On the bed, was a bag filled with packs of MREs, bottles of water, a compass, and a map. He unfolded the map, looking it over. Then he folded the map back up and put everything back in the bag. He laid down, intending to get some sleep, but he felt too restless to do so. Instead, he left his room, shutting the door behind him. Might as well see if I can find out something about the other competitors.
