A Final Boss Awakens!
#11
The comedian felt a light stab of pain in his cranium. He brought a bony hand to his temple and applied pressure to it in a vain attempt to somehow push out the throbbing. He reached for another bottle on his table among the piles of empty ones, only stopping once he processed that he didn’t have one to drink. He winced. Perhaps he really DID have too much to drink…

Thankfully, Desco spoke up again, giving his mind something to focus on that had nothing to do with the headache he had.

"That was just an example, Desco and Big Sis control Earth already so she doesn't need to try to destroy it yet. Desco will do anything to make heroes come out to fight her, as a Final Boss!"

He didn’t know if it was the ache in his head impairing his judgment or if Desco caught on to his reaction when she mentioned sucking up time and space into a black hole, but he could’ve sworn that, back home, nothing non-human could even be seen on the surface. And Desco was by far the furthest thing from a human being he had ever seen.

Hell, now that he gave it some thought, NOTHING seemed to come from his world. The colorful creatures all around him might have; they looked like they could fit in in the Underground. But then there was Raal, and Alice, and those two guards with the pink armor, and now Desco.

He knew Frisk would fuck everything up if she won, but he didn’t predict something like THIS would end up happening. God, he needed something to drink. He didn’t want to start thinking about his brief chat with Frisk. He had gone into this place exactly because of that.

“final boss, huh?” he said, leaning back into his chair. The room seemed to go topsy-turvey for a few seconds. “guess you could say you’re uh… boss monster?

He couldn’t stop himself from chuckling. He was gonna have to save that one for use later on.

Sadly, any reaction Desco could have given him was halted by a voice in their heads.

"I'm Gothitelle, your waitress today. What would you like to start?"

His eyes widened for a very brief moment as he looked around, trying to find the source of the noise. Eventually, he remembered the crazy-hairdo animal Pokemon that served as Desco’s group’s waitress. The fact that that thing could speak into his head like that made him keep quiet, only observing the exchange between her and the Desco. He could at least strike one thing off the list: these… Pokemon(?) were definitely not from the Underground.

So where WERE they from?

Before the waitress left, however, his mind snapped back to his empty bottles.

“uh, excuse me, miss? another ketchup-flavored soda please,” he said, tapping the Gothitelle by her side as she walked past him. She simply nodded before moving away from them both.

"Well, would you like to just be Desco's friend instead? It will be more fun than sitting alone here all by yourself."

friend…

He remembered how he had tried to handle Frisk for the briefest time in which they had listened to him back in Snowdin. He acted friendly, offering jokes, bad puns, and word search puzzles. He had hoped that doing so would stop them. That maybe, just maybe, that Papyrus might have been right. They were just scared and were trying to stay alive, or they were angry and needed something to lash out at, or maybe they just didn’t know what else to do in their situation.

The result? His little brother, a pile of dust to the wind. The whole world, destroyed thanks to his inability to defend it. And now here he was, sitting in some silly candy club, drinking his sorrows away while among a crowd of unfamiliar faces in an even more unfamiliar land. Honestly, what difference would it make if he refused her friendship? Not like he had anything left to lose…

"Desco is exploring Ambrosia right now. This is her first time here. She is surprised that Guu created this place soo quickly while Desco was away from her. Did Desco mention Guu before? Guu is Desco's best friend! Desco met Guu when she arrived at the Nexus."

wait. Did she say Guu?

Princess Guu. The ruler of Ambrosia. The one who could know where Papyrus was. If she knew where he was…

“you know Guu?” he said, barely keeping his excitement in check. Desco noticed his posture had straightened, and he was far more attentive than before. “i’ve, uh… i’ve been looking for her, actually. i need to ask her something really urgently.”

He had another thought. “oh, uh, and that’s a ‘yes’ on the friend thing, just to let ya know. A boneafide friendo here-o.”
