Samus Aran is one of my favourite video game characters. She is interesting from many perspectives, I feel like a lot of people don't 'get' who I see to be the real Samus. I guess on one level I didn't want to see her done wrong
I've written as her before but it never quite clicked. I have a hard time writing characters who don't flip out and act irrationally. This time around she has become not only my best iteration of the character, but possibly my best well written and balanced character that I have written to date. There's a lot of things I still want to do with Samus.
Oh! And I finally get to continue the story from Metroid Fusion that I have been waiting for TWELVE GODDAMN YEARS. It's like after doing something really dramatic with the story they just pussied out and decided to do a bunch of midquels. WE WANT A FUSION SEQUEL
I wanted my second character to be both a contrast to my main character, preferably a villain, and someone who I would legitimately enjoy writing. Given how much I love One Piece, that series was top of my list for a villain to pick from. Enel is my favourite One Piece villain and it helps that lightning is my favourite element. His powers gave me a lot to fool around with – unlike Samus who is a kind of fixed, moddable robot, he is elemental in nature and can re-form his body as the element of lightning. He has a lot of places to go in terms of powers that will keep me busy for years.
I also decided that I wanted a real villain who didn't slowly become more of an antihero. I don't regret at all the route I took with Super Buu on Chubbs, but it made me realise that I have a really hard time writing evil characters and keeping them that way. And I want to constantly get better at writing. Enel literally believes he is God and has the right to do whatever he wants. In One Piece, because of the tone, despite him being fully willing to commit genocide this never actually happens (at least on screen; he's done it in the past). Bringing him into the Omniverse allowed me to put that character in a realistic setting without the limitations on horrible stuff that I could actually let him carry out. It's a test for me to see how far I can push him and how convincingly I can write his character and make him believably abhorrent.

Curious about me and the characters I play? See the 'Staff' page! See also the rosters for my characters Samus Aran or Enel if you'd like to see examples of well-formatted rosters. Hope you enjoy the Omniverse!
