Mami Tomoe Wrote:I chose Mami Tomoe as my character, at first, because I was watching Madoka Magica and she seemed like the epitome of my expectations for the anime - A simple romp through girlyville with magic and rainbow hero-flavoured sprinkles on top. Then she, erm, realized she was in over her head.(Edited that quote a wee bit to remove a spoiler or two I hadn't noticed while writing.)
Later on, she seemed like the only remaining shard of my expectations. She had managed to become arguably the most skilled Magical Girl featured in the anime (Homura doesn't count), while being oblivious to the evils and injustices of the world and her line of work in the process. This makes her stick out as a pillar of light among endless shadows, or at least that's the best way I can put it, and it also makes her the archetypal hero I've always dreamed of. Archetypal, yes, but I love the holier-than-thou-but-not-stuck-up-enough-to-outright-say-it type for some reason. Which might make sense, because I'm that myself minus the 'but-not-stuck-up-enough-to-outright-say-it' part.
In other words, I like Mami because she's the blundering veteran. She contradicts herself while being the (OPINION ALERT) best Magical Girl on the show, despite only getting three real episodes of screentime.
As of today, this still stands. As for Agnès, I was originally going for someone to completely contrast and really show drastic difference compared to Mami who was still aligned on the Good side of the moral compass. I at first was thinking of characterizing Magnolia Arch using what scraps of Bravely Second information there is out on the Internet and giving her amnesia so I didn't need to make a background (And subsequently look stupid for getting everything wrong a few months later). I decided I'd keep looking in Bravely Default for a character, and after toying about with Edea, Ringabel and then even Alternis Dim, I decided the one I used as the healer would be interesting to play. My second favourite character in Bravely Default, oddly enough, was the one I chose rather than my absolute favourite (Ringabel). As for the actual reason I chose Agnès - I thought the Omniverse could use a healer, so I made Agnès into one.
Lastly... How do I relate to Agnès? I honestly have no idea. We're both pretty Lawful Good-y, and on that topic we're both the goody two-shoes types, but that's basically the same reason I like Mami. The only thing with Agnès is she's more dependent on others despite preferring to handle things alone, and that's a good trait to have in a roleplay - It means your character will rarely be alone. And with incentive for others to keep you around ("Protect me and I'll help keep you from dying and shit"), you're pretty much set.
Thus ends my rant.
