As she had expected, it was a perfect day for a hike. Though it was a little disturbing that her arm started getting thinner and thinner as she move forward, she didn’t mind as much as the fresh air was just the thing she needed at this moment, and for once, she didn’t feel old by thinking that.
What made nature walks more amazing was her senses. Every little detail, every little speck of life was there for her to view. She could feel birds in the trees, sitting on their nests. She could feel ever lizard run by, or every squirrel doing gymnastics in the trees. But what made this hike extra interesting was she could even sense them.
You’d think you wouldn’t be able to sense a spirit, but something about the presence they left in the air left behind some left of a trail. And because their entire existence is emotion, Guu could sense their feelings more potently than other creatures. With animals and sentient lifeforms, she’d have to guess based on how their heart was beating or body language and stuff like that. With these spirits, they just give off an aura, something of a flavor that just tastes like a certain emotion. It’s kind of difficult to explain, kind of like how some people can taste smells.
What baffled Guu about these spirits were the emotions they felt: absolute terror. There wasn’t some other presence she was missing either, they were hovering not far from her, keeping their distance but still keeping around her specifically. Slowly, she began to piece together a working theory on what’s going on, and decided to share her discoveries with her new guests.
“I heard you spare children.” She said, loud enough for the spirits to hear. “But do you normally fear children? That doesn’t make sense. Is it their innocence that frighten you?”
The spirits barely react, they just continue to keep pace with her.
“I think you know.” Continued Guu. “I think you know I’m not an ordinary child. You can see what I really am.”
Spirits still don’t react, but she could feel their fear deepen a little, calling their cold shoulder a bluff.
“Well, if that’s the case, and I really think I’m right, you were smart to fear me.”
She just kept on walking, now taking the presence of the spirits with a grain of salt.
Eventually, a large gathering just barely showed up on the edges of her senses. She was glad because her arm was turning linguini thickness. She made her way over there and passed through into a clearing where she was greeted by over fifty eyes, terrified eyes.
“I’m Guu. I’m here about a rescue. Could that be you guys?” She asked.
Slowly, it dawned on the animals on whom this person was, as the name had been passed around the group as soon as the tweet came in. A little pig, smaller than the rest of the group, step through the crowd and stood in front of her excited.
“You’ve come to save us! Everyone! She’s come to save us!” Said the pig.
“I’m guessing you’re Mina.”
“Yep!” Replied the pig.
A rabbit girl, a bit closer in size to the rest of the group, steps forward.
“Well, you’re highness, I’d like to thank you on behalf the group for personally coming out – oh my god whaT’S GOING ON WITH YOUR ARM?!”
Soon, the group of fifty or so follows Guu through the woods, who is slowly reeling her arm in as she follows its trail home. To the group, she looked like she didn’t have a care in the world, but in reality, she is constantly checking her senses. The spirits were still keeping their distance, not even daring coming near the group she’s in charge of. She’s more on the watch for predators that might try to take someone.
The group was quiet as they followed the pink princess, not sure if they’re actually following her to salvation or to their imminent doom. Eventually, the rabbit from before steps forward to walk beside Guu.
“Um, excuse me Princess.” She said, not aware of the reference she just accidently made. “Sorry to bother you, but are you absolutely sure your arm is going to lead us to your city?”
“Mmhmm.” She said, trying not to break her concentration.
“And what about the spirits?” she asked.
“They’ll keep their distance while I’m around, I’m more worried about-”
Guu paused mid-sentence as she slowed to a stop. Everyone halts as well. She lifts her arm and points it in a seemingly random direction. Suddenly, her arm stretches off to a really far off bush in the distance. The pained cry of a canine of some sort releases into the air. She lowers her arm again to a horrified group of animals. She turns to them.
“It was a wolf… well a pack of wolves, but the others ran off after they saw. That.” She said to a crowd of dropped jaws. “Anyways, may we get a move on?”
After what must have been an hour of walking, Guu and the pack of animals make it to the edge of the woods. None of the travelers could believe their eyes as they saw civilization for the first time in days. Guu just calmly unwrapped her arm and lead the group into town.
Sylvia’s reaction to Guu leading the group of lost animals into town was just to laugh and shake her head. Her princess never ceased to amaze her. She walked up to her, raising a noodle arm and stated:
“Told you I couldn’t be rid of that easily.”
Sylvia burst out laughing and gave Guu a big hug, which caught her by surprise, but she eventually reciprocated. The animals, finally shaking their disbeliefs begin to don smiles. The rabbit stepped forward and was the first one to lead the group into a cheer.
“Three cheers for our savior, Princess Guu!”
The crowd of animals cheers in delight as they surround her and lift her off the ground. And with that, she let off another genuine smile. It must be a new record.
