Back On The Road
#2
Wandering kilometer after kilometer through the white wasteland, Tartaros racked his brain, attempting to recall what landed in him here...

Five hours ago, unknown iceworld

They were closing in, it was the end, everyone knew it... The warbands great beasts, ones of brass and flame, charged the stronghold's ranks. There was almost no stopping them... lasguns did nothing... the boltguns did nothing... not even the bloody landmines did anything beyond slow them... The men were starting to break rank.

Tartaros was up at the top ramparts, trying to pick off any renegades heading from the tundra with bolter fire, when finally one of the beasts broke through. It simply charged through the barricades, and went hurtling towards the first thing it could see. Unfortunately for Tartaros, that thing was him...

The great brass construct came barreling down towards the marine, bellowing a thick smog. The marine was caught off guard by the monster, and was gored by the beast. It easily tore through his chestplate, causing a large gaping wound, and knocking the unfortunate marine through the rampart and into the front lines, still following. Desperate and dazed, Tartaros drew his chainsword and began swinging wildly, cutting swathes into the front of the warbands ranks, before being overwhelmed and tackled to the ground by a group of pistol-wielding troops.

The troops began blasting away at the marine, with autopistol fire and crude clubs, while he desperately attempted to crawl back onto his feet. While the battle raged around, Tartaros could only focus on one thing through the lenses of his battered armour and the great blizzard raging around, the clubs... the clubs! Reaching up with the last of his strength, the marine grabbed at one of the clubs, yanking himself upwards! He was finally back up! Before the renegades to set up to tackle him again, the marine grabbed his chainsword, and retreated back towards the barricade. But it was too little, too late... the beasts had finally broken entirely through the main barricade, and whatever resistance was left had retreated into the bowels of the stronghold.

Tartaros made a sprint for the second wall, attempting to outrun the wall of beasts and enemies approaching the last line. Grasping at his side for his boltgun for the last time, the marine prepared to make his final stand. Readying his weapon, he let out one final yell of defiance towards the encroaching wave, before opening fire. He was going to take as many of the traitors down with him as he could...

The brawl between the marine and the first wave was short, bloody and brutal... after letting loose a burst of shells, the wave was already too close for any sort of proper ranged work, so Tartaros was left with the only thing he could do... He tucked his boltgun into its holster, drew his blade, and with a short, of all things, prayer spoken from his lips, charged into the fray. Uncharacteristically silent, he began smacking aside each and every enemy as he could, cutting through man after man as they beat and shot against his armoured plate... He kept charging, swinging like a madman, ignoring everything happening before him... only going further.

Eventually, however, no matter how fast he charged, how hard he swung, there was always more... one of the beasts finally got the marine off guard yet again, this time smacking against his head... The marine was knocked over, unconscious and on his deathbed, panicked troops beating on his body, when suddenly, he disappeared in a flash of light.

Three hours ago, Omni's lair

Tartaros was still, his battered body held in place by some unknown force, before being awoken by a gentle voice.

"My name is Omni. This is not the world you know. This is the Omniverse. You interest me, so I have made you part of it. The Omniverse is a place that reflects the wishes of those who are part of it. But! There are rules. I will explain them only once, so listen carefully.

The marine stared at the odd being, resembling a human, though almost pure white, with nothing but a mouth for features anywhere on its body. Though remaining silent, the marine could feel the sense of adrenaline he felt in the battle fade away slowly...

The being stood, and pulled out an orb, a strange looking thing indeed, many-coloured, and almost moving on its own...

"This is Omnilium. It’s what ties the Omniverse together. Without it, you are nothing. With it, anything you desire can be yours. But you will need more than this. If you desire it enough, you will find it. You will find that using it comes naturally. Just think of what you desire most."

The orb flew forth from the beings hand, finding its way clipped on to Tartaros' belt. The marine opened his mouth to speak, but however was interrupted by "Omni" as it began speaking yet again.

"You will not be alone in the Omniverse. There are others. Of course, they, too desire Omnilium. Do not fear death. For as long as you interest me, you will be reborn. That’s all you need to know right now. You’ll figure out the rest soon enough. I’ll be watching … and waiting."

Before Tartaros could question the being at all, there was a flash of light, knocking the marine unconscious yet again...

The Nexus, now

Tartaros was now nearing his destination, with the figure becoming clearer... a group of humanoid figures merely standing around, and a large, metallic door presided over by several more figures. In preparation, the marine readied his boltgun, and begin marching yet again.
