Needless Carnage - Strangers
#2
When Gildarts finally left Martha’s store, she began to gather the scattered stocks of crumpled flowers but paid no mind to the task at hand. The young boy on the crimson bike returned from his errands and as he opened the jingling door, his face warped into a liquified expression of fear and astonishment. A face flashed before his eyes as he recalled the tawny haired missionary that he had seen on his morning pick-up. The fire of rage flared within his chest, he knew that guy was trouble! The kid felt a tang of bitter regret choking in his gut, he knew he should have stayed to defend Martha.

“Whoa! Looks like a crew of pirates went on a rampage in here! What happened Martha?” he was still a child at heart and was excited to hear the story of a lifetime.

“Something like that..." Martha replied but she knew who the real pirates were.

...
A man’s tart, cackling laughter reverberated through the seclusion of the dimly lit captain’s quarters and Barbarossa started to chew the fat amongst his sailors, "Heh heh heh. Splice the mainbrace! We'll take him to a deserted part of the island and strip ’im of whatever goods he's got!"

A pirate suggested as he slurped some grog, "Whoa-whoa, Cap’n don' you think he could be more useful?"

"Or that he's a Prime and could clobber us to a pulp!?" another crewman with red hair mentioned in a shrill voice of fear at the hornswaggle they had concocted.

"This landlubber got ’imself two o’ these," the bearded old salt thudded his knuckle into the pegged leg below his waist and the result was a hammering echo. A ring of shadows shimmered against the walls as he told the few, "No great and powerful Prime could afford to loose theirs that couldn't pay for another set. An’ he don’t carry no weapons. Plus, I ain't never known ye’ to ’ave high morals!"

"I'm sure Red here jus’ means he don’ want to die up against a Prime ain' tha’ right ya jackleg?" jeered another haughty voice from below deck. The man chuckled at Red’s expense and took a swill of rum.

Barbarossa grinned, “Aye, he’ll be feedin’ the fish soon. Ye savvy?”
“Set sail!”

Tethers of twine released from the moderately-sized ship that clung to a dock in a nearby port. “All hands hoay!” Grunts responded to the caterwaul called from the deck and the ample crew meshed their pace with tasks, each making a beeline for his duties while on the stern Gildarts was confronted by the captain.

Barbarossa had hobbled over to Gildarts and demanded, “Ahoy thar! Pay in advance.”

“Half now, half when we get there.” Gildarts allowed his voice to command the bargain with the sternness of his expression. Loose change jingled in the pouch he offered to the captain, whom quickly removed himself from the Prime’s presence.

Storm clouds curled in the sky and rumbled with the threat of an oncoming storm. The men on the ship paid no mind to the icy breeze that ripped through their bones. The hands remained busy as they lowered a great fabric sail and the ship was cast out into the sea.

Gildarts had remained above deck and found a small, out-of-the-way place to idle; he leaned his rusted joints against the wooden mast. His calm and cool demeanor was equal to that of the storm that rolled overhead. At this perch he could see a complete view of the horizon, ideal for spotting the Tenrou Tree. Still, as brief as wind, his senses jingled with a strange sensation that reeked of danger. Not even the sea-breeze could wash away the sway of tension stirring beneath the dark waters they sailed through.

Later, under the seclusion of the helm, the voice of a gruff crewman echoed in the wooden chamber, tainting the curved staves of lumber, “Aw cap’n, do we really have to sail all the way out to Cinnibar, just to loot ’im? Red said the storm looks like it's gonna get really rough! I don’ wanna get caught in this’un like the last.”

"Patience boys. Did ye see how heavy the sack he had slung over his shoulder was? He's one of the few Primes who carries his wealth on 'im so it can be stolen. I even heard the jingle of doubloons while the boards on our deck creaked and bowed with the weight of gold! GOLD! Aye men, I can taste it. The scallywag’s got treasure on ’im an' I reckon he wants to stash it on the island he thinks we’re bringing him to! Unfortunately for ’im this'll be one of our best payouts yet!"
