Synonyms will put readers more at ease and improve immersion, but in this case I wouldn't consider them your friend. The syntax of 'Still, [rest of the sentence],' should be reserved for dialogue ideally and used very sparingly in description/internal monologue. In most cases, like DL and Ganon mentioned, you'll get more bang for your buck by taking time to think critically about possible rewrites.
