Grabbing the lace around the bag he would strap it to himself and wait a bit longer, hoping the stoat wouldn't come back so soon but it looked like he was too busy picking berries and foraging for food.
He would make his way towards the swamp lands in which they passed not too long ago, but they had to do so slowly and silently. It was near a location that had some pretty terrible monsters around. They didn’t see any but the rodent knew that if he lost his precious bag of flowers he’d come back and wish to get it. Or at the very least cause some mischief on his part if he choose to just toss it in the water or something.
At least from anyone elses point of view, for him though, he knew something that could help in that. After traveling for a good few minutes the edge of the swamp was coming up, and as he looked into the moors of the land that was both half encompassed by water and half over grown with tall tree’s that made for canopies above him, he didn’t see anything of note right away.
It was quiet and the sun was still falling, with late afternoon rolling in it was starting to become harder and harder to see where he was as well as what he was doing too. Simon waited, watching and looking around till finally he found something he was looking for, from the forest he would notice some kind of lizard like monster walking over to the swamps water and drinking from it.
It was a raptor, but not just one but a small pack of them. Given how the Tangled Green’s operated dinosaurs were pretty common, yet something that was too be avoided depending on what the creature was over all. Raptors were just as dangerous to play with when they were in a pack.
Not that this bothered Simon, he was more or less immortal thanks to Ricters little gem stone, something he appreciated most of all as the gem acted like a litch’s phylactery. Which normally was very high level, if this were a game, in a world where you can hop between realms and create anything you like, it was fairly common to some degree.
Walking out slowly he grabbed at a rock and would try to gain the attention of them by chucking it at the water near the pack of raptors. The rock would arch and splash into the water as the mouse waved his arms around, screaming, “Hey! Come get some you ass holes!” He said as one screeched, running over before the others would follow the leader. There was a pack of around four of them, hard to out run and even harder to deal with.
But as he aimed he would shoot two shots, aiming at one of the raptors and nailing a shot in the chest while the other missed, grazing by a tree near by. The Raptor felt it but didn’t go down completely, instead getting up soon after that as Simon began to back peddle and then break into a running sprint, heading back to camp.
The raptors gave chase, not slowing down nor giving him much time to turn and shoot, the foliage and uneven ground only helped to hinder Simons movements as he turned and fired three shots, almost all missed their targets and he was left to his running once more.
They gained speed and got closer with each second, quickly gaining on them but he didn’t slow down much either, “Fuck, alright I should be close to it now.” He remarked as the camp was only around a hundred or so feet away. But before he could even make it there something came out of the bushes on his left hand side, it wasn't too large, human sized and seemed to come out right in front of him.
“Ricter? What the fuck!” Simon complained as the doctor heard the gun shots and made his way into that direction. For good reason too as he already had his sword out.
“Really? Your complaining? I’m here to help you, and why the hell would you try to startle Raptors for!?”
He would get no answer to that, Simons plan was nearly done if they had managed to get to the camp, he could have it destroyed and just say that they got raided or what ever, forcing the weasel to move and spend more energy to do more mundane activities. It needed to be real and or believable, and while he slept, he could make his way off with the mustelids sword and escape into the night.
But as he panted and caught his breath he only growled as the raptors made it to them, one jumping at Simon who fired a shot which barely grazed over its scales but was close-lined by Ricters blade. Slicing off its head almost immediately and causing it to fall to the ground on top of Simons foot.
Causing him to jump back but try to calm down his breathing, aiming around him as the raptors screeched and began surrounding the two. Ricter was at least trained at fighting people from a standing position with out much movement, however Simon was panicking a bit. Mostly since he he never fought creatures like these before, they seemed easy to take at first but were fast as fuck.
Firing a couple more shots at them he began to spray and pray, nailing one a few times but just barely hurting it enough for it to begin limping as he growled. “That's right you fucking bitch! Get the hell back!” He yelled.
Mean while Ricter waited for the other two to jump on him, which one did while the other jumped right after, however he simply used the face of his blade to swat one back from him and the other he stabbed with the edge of his sword along the side of their chest before kicking it away as well.
“Simon! Be quite, its dark, you can attract more with your gun fire and yelling-”
It fell on deaf ears, the rodent was too focused on murdering them which he continued to fire down on the wounded and dying raptor. Killing it eventually with a few random shots hitting vital organs. Mean while as he was slightly distracted one of the raptors rammed into his side, knocking him to the ground, Simon would grunt and soon try firing his gun but he’d find no bullets to shoot at all.
“Crap! I’m out of bullets!” He yelled as the raptors teeth would sink down into his forearm, the only thing blocking it from attacking his face as he yelled in pain, this had turned south fairly quickly. At least for what Simon was planning to be something simple, but maybe heeding the weasels advice about the monsters and creatures around here was better for his over all well being.
But the bite wouldn't last for very long before Ricters sword would plunge strait into the dinosaur, chopping strait against its back before giving it another stab and tossing them of once its movement had stopped. The last one had been taken care of, laying dead on the ground near by, but as he reached a paw out to Simon to pick him up, Simon scoffed and got up on his own. Flinching and going through the pain of bending his arm to do so since it was still bleeding and in pain.
“Seems like he got you good.”
“S-shut up, just heal me already!” He complained as Ricter shook his head.
Rearing his sword back he soon would stab Simons arm, slowly mending the dagger like wounds in his arm and also helping to make sure that he would be okay. It lasted for little over ten seconds before his arm was completely rejuvenated, but during that time Simon stared at the ruby that was on the front of the cross guard. It was so close. All he needed to do was pull it from the socket and run off.
However how could he survive out here? He didn’t know much about the location at all, too much foliage and not many land marks at all either. It was annoying that he had so many holes poked into his plan but even though he failed he wouldn’t give up, he would gain freedom no matter what the cost.
“Thanks.” Simon said after pulling back his arm, the fur having grown back over the wounds that were previously there, no pain, no nothing, like he hadn’t just lost half a pint of blood from those sharp teeth.
“No problem.” Ricter would re-sheath his sword now. Still getting the vibe that Simon was just an ungrateful piece of shit, but that was normal and had been normal ever since he had ensnared him into the ruby.
Around them were four dead raptors and plenty of food to eat now, but they wouldn’t be able to eat all of this in one night, hopefully all that noise didn’t attract something horrible their way, but for now the only thing Ricter cared about was food and resting.
“Alright, help me carry one of these guys, might as well cook it up for the night.”
“Fine” Simon pouted as he said this, grabbing one of them by the legs while Ricter would grab it by its arms, lifting it up into the air and walking back to camp which wasn’t too far off now.
Cutting into he large lizard and dicing up sections eventually the sizzling of meat would become loud around the camp fire. Simon had sat under the tree near by and watched as Ricter helped cook the food, at the same time Simon simply passed him chunks of meat from the pile to be cooked as well. At most they could barely even eat 25% of it, much less the entire thing.
“Making jerky out of the rest?” The Rodent asked.
“Yeah, might as well put most of its body to use, plus I’m sure we’ll be hungry in the morning.”
“Good thinking, though what are we going to do with the body? I’d rather not have flies on my face in the morning either.”
Ricter would point back from the path he headed from, basically towards the swamp, “We can move it away from us, maybe towards the swamp, though I doubt we should be moving much that far right now. We can deal with it later.”
He had the idea that if they moved it as far away from them as possible they would be there for something else to eat later on. Unfortunately he couldn’t just burn the bodies, he had nothing that could do that on hand right now.
“What the hell were those things anyways?” Simon mentioned as Ricter was surprised he didn’t know what animals he provoked.
“Uh raptors, sharp teeth, hunt in packs, and typically don't attack randomly unless provoked. I’m surprised you don't know what they are.”
“I’ve rarely been up here, I’ve lived most my life underground, last thing I’d be interested in are scaled monsters that want to rip me apart.”
Thinking about it that was a good point to make, but maybe next time he should read up on these kinds of things, or else he end up like the raptor they were currently about to eat right now. Taking a stick off the fire on the end was a chunk of cooked meat, he’d pass it to Simon who would sniff then bite into it.
His eyes flared as he began scarfing it down, he hadn’t eaten anything after being given a body up until now and he was beginning to understand why he enjoyed food so much. It was delicious and he loved every bit of it, even if it was only lightly seasoned.
“Whoa, slow down, your going to bite the stick if you woof it down like that.”
But Simon didn’t listen, only munching into it till eventually the meat was gone and he sighed, drinking some water they had collected on the way here. “I missed how much food tasted, ugh. Now I’m super hungry.”
“Well luckily for you we have plenty, if you want more cook it yourself.”
The mustelid didn’t have to tell him twice, instead he’d grab another piece of meat and begin grilling it over the fire for a bit. Completely forgetting about his plan now, after all it seemed mute given how he wouldn’t be able to escape very far in the night if those things were out there. Plus he was out of bullets, which he’d ask for more later on, for now food was the most important thing to focus on.
Eating only lasted around ten or so minutes after that before both of them began to get full, they had eaten a good amount of the raptor, and turned most into jerky for later. Storing it in a bag near by, that way if it were take or raided by some small animal then they would be more or less safe.
As for the body it was dumped not too far off down near the other bodies, Ricter and Simon had no interest in walking all the way back down to the swamp, just to be rid of them. So this was as good a place as any for the time being. Once they had cleaned up and were well fed Ricter would go into his tent, “Good night.”
“Night” Simon remarked casually as he crawled into his half of the tent.
