[Round 2 - C] Pennywise & Shantotto vs Link & Clownpiece
#4
Defeat was an excellent teacher, but one which Shantotto had hoped she wouldn’t be learning from again quite so soon. Alas, the previous lessons had brought forth a revelation that was harsh in its reality, one which belied the true power of those in this tournament. No longer would the mage hold back; instead, she would obliterate, incinerate, and decimate any being foolish enough to stand between her and victory. This demonic army was no exception.

Her monster of a partner had left her with little choice other than to assign the white-carapaced soldiers the role of laying down suppressive fire from cover. Blaster bolts tore into and burned the flesh of the first hell guards to come within twenty feet of Shantotto, the stench of rancid, charred flesh reminiscent of a crematorium. Still, it wasn’t long before the fleshy, spiny monsters were clambering over the rubble, their infernal weapons and raw strength wreaking havoc upon many hapless Stormtroopers.

The mage winced as blood-curdling screams filled the air, struggling to keep a weather eye on the star-spangled jester leading the demonic forces. Purple flames erupted from the small fairy girl’s free hand, the fire from her torch wavering like the lonely gleam of a lighthouse through thick fog. It flashed once, the glare mighty and retina-searing, only for it to vanish altogether an instant later.

Momentarily taken aback by this development, Shantotto glanced sharply around, her narrow-eyed gaze searching for the cause of her alarm. Her heart was racing, yes, and she had been about to use her trusty staff to cast a spell, but… why?

Shantotto brandished her staff before her like a cutlass, ready to strike out at any moment. But, no-- there was no threat. Only the ghostly cast of the fairy-general stood before her, the gaudy stars and stripes of her outfit seeming almost incorporeal. All around the infernal horde swarmed, the unnatural makeup of their bodies writhing through the cloak of reddish smoke and swirling embers that coated the wreck of a city. The hoards seemed to ignore the magi something which puzzled Shantotto quite a bit.

Perhaps she had been mistaken. This figure was clearly a hallucination, and the hand raised toward her was also a hallucination, and the flames engulfing it, surely hallucinatory, and--

A cone of blinding light engulfed Shantotto head-on, intense and all-consuming and markedly sinister. Darkly-lit fires from the deepest pits of hell lapped at her skin, what felt like a hundred phantom fingers upending her ribcage and tearing into her very soul. While she was able to resist for a brief time, it wasn’t long before the fiery pain overcame her, searing inside until she felt that her spirit had been hollowed out like an apple core.

An agonized wail pierced the air; the short mage crumpled into a heap.

“Hah!” Clownpiece gloated, towering over her downed opponent like a victorious trophy hunter. “That was a piece of cake. After those last two guys I was sure we’d run into someone a little tougher, but it seems that you’re just a pair of weaklings!”

Grunting from exertion, Shantotto raised herself up onto one arm. Her other hand reached for her Stardust rod, trembling fingers grasping it in a tight hold.

“Such reckless behavior to charge me all alone. I admire your heart, but your head must be of solid bone!” The mousy mage taunted the foolish fae. Despite the immense pain she was in, she still mustered up the strength to swing her staff toward the malevolent jester in a single, vicious movement.

Water blasted out from the opaline focus of the Stardust rod, sweeping across the stretch of battlefield before the magus. A wave of rushing azure liquid tore at the ground, pushing Clownpiece back towards the remainder of her reinforcements and giving Shantotto the opportunity to stand.

The torrent of water cleared just enough vision through the soot and ash that the mage could make out the hulking form of Pennywise having at it with the teenage boy clad in green. The boy’s shield was giving the clown more trouble than it was worth, it seemed, but the Tarutaru was sure It could handle a simple melee.

She returned her attention to Clownpiece just in time to witness the hell fairy peeling herself from the ground, her gossamer wings and polka-dotted hat absolutely soaked.

Normally, the mage would laugh at the prospect of bombarding another magic user, another imposter. No other could match her skill, a fact which made fighting a frivolous waste of time. This time, however, the goal was simple: win.

An exception could be made.

Her robes burnt, body seared, will unbroken Shantotto’s timeless eyes glared as she once again challenged the very rules of the Omniverse to unleash her devastating might. She wasn't done, though: power glimmered in her brown eyes while she focused on the one thing she needed

Her focus unbroken she commanded the very skies to open up as lightning crashed down in a cascading flash of blinding light upon Clownpiece.
