Minnie Mouse’s eyes narrowed as she gazed out one of Pokute Palace’s large, grandiose windows. “What is this?” she asked Togetic without looking at him, gesturing to the thick blanket of emerald fog that snaked through the streets of their little town. Ambrosia’s poor little citizens, overwhelmed by the strange amount of activity that had filled their day compared to a normal twenty-four hours, scurried about.
Togetic hovered beside the Lady Mouse, who had barely had time to ease into regular life again—let alone any kind of authority—before shiz had hit the fan.
Technically, the Lady of Ambrosia wasn’t even in charge. The settlement had its own set of advisers that had slipped into that role since Princess Guy’s mysterious disappearance. However, Minnie Mouse’s return to the city had ended up being enough of an event that, in personality anyway, she had assumed a figurehead position, if nothing else.
So she couldn’t actually, technically do anything—but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t try.
Her first self-imposed task, though, had already stumped her queenly sensibilities. She didn’t remember strange weather phenomena being a problem when she and Mickey were in charge of the Disney Realms, and even here, weirdly-colored fog seemed something more suited to the Pale Moors than to the Tangled.
It didn’t seem suited to Togetic’s skillset, either. Despite his humble, kinda cute exterior, the fairy-type Pokémon had been trained as a warrior. In her brief chat with him, he’d convinced her that the ninjas had fully accepted him as one of their own during his tenure as, essentially, Ambrosia’s watchfairy in Mokugakure despite his unassuming appearance.
But bad weather wasn’t something you could karate chop into oblivion, so he and Minnie Mouse simply stared out the window for several minutes. Puzzled.
“I guess we should do something about this,” Minnie finally sighed.
“Tremendous leadership, Lady Minnie,” Togetic nodded, and then, with a dab: “Lehgo.”
The two Ambrosians skipped out of Pokute Palace and into the streets, right into the fog. Along the way, Minnie summoned two surgical masks, placing one on Togetic’s head and one over her own mouth and nose. They submerged themselves in the mucky, pale green air, watching as tiny complaining moogles and fairies hurried this way and that. The former queen dodged the citizens, blinking as she made her way through the mist, trying to discern its origin, until at last a small sound reached her adept ears.
“Good golly!” she said aloud. Togetic met her gaze. “It’s Miss Molly!”
Meanwhile, above their heads, someone in the Palace sounded the battle horn.
“Are you joking?!” the mouse queen held up her hands. “We’re not being invaded, ya dumb butts! Come on, Togetic!”
The fairy-type Pokémon leapt off the ground and his wings began to flutter. He swooped toward Minnie; she lifted her arms, and Togetic’s hands slid under her shoulders and raised her into the air, flying quickly toward the source of Molly’s cries. Moments later, the fairy dropped her out of the air and she glided onto the ground, lifting her dress and breaking into a sprint towards the little girl.
She slid to a stop, though, when she saw the thing coalescing at Molly’s feet. The fog was dissipating slightly now, concentrating around the mysterious creature the thirteen-year-old girl gawked at.
“Molly!” Minnie called, reaching out and grabbing the girl by the arm, yanking her away from the thing. The girl turned to face the mouse—who, since their last meeting, she’d grown considerably taller than—and her eyes grew wide.
“Lady Minnie! You’re back!” she said, and Minnie tugged again. This time, the girl pulled back. “She needs our help!”
For the first time, Minnie glanced down and took a good look at the creature, which upon closer inspection looked less like a creature and more like a humanoid woman, wrapped from head to toe in vines and leaves. She writhed in pain at the mouse and the girl’s feet.
The fairy-type Pokémon skidded to the ground behind the pair, and Minnie felt the presence of a bunch of Ambrosia eyes boring into their backs.
“Weird vine girl in the hizzhouse, Lady Minnie,” Togetic observed, “...and all the other peeps up in here, too.”
Too much attention for this injured little lady. The prime made a quick decision.
“Togetic,” she squeaked, swallowing her nerves and trying her best to sound authoritative. “Take her to the Palace. Put her in the guest room. Make sure she has everything she needs to get better.”
The next thing she felt were Molly’s arms wrapping around her shoulders and pulling her into a hug, but she couldn’t take her eyes off this strange newcomer
