[Round 2 - C] Pennywise & Shantotto vs Link & Clownpiece
#2
A mighty blast of smoke-laden wind smote the earth, howling through the windowless shells of decimated buildings. Squinting her eyes against the caustic plumes of ozone and ash, Shantotto judged the distance between her forces and their hellish adversaries. The convoy of abominations loomed toward them, brilliant cinders dancing amidst their twisted and misshapen forms.

Satisfied with her assessment, the little mage turned to Judge Jak. “These are worthy foes. We would do well to stay on our toes.”

The Judge bowed his head in solemn agreement. “As you say.” A distant growl of something like thunder rattled the ground beneath their feet, stray embers hissing as they streamed from the roiling, deathly-dark clouds above; the Judge looked expectantly at her. “What are your orders, commander?”

“I—“ Shantotto paused, mouth clicking shut. She had never had such a ragtag militia under her command before; needless to say, she had a bit of stage fright.

Quite abruptly, a flicker of movement drew the mage’s attention in the direction of their enemies. What she saw nearly made her scream in frustration.

Pennywise had begun to slowly lope forward.

Upon seeing Pennywise’s steady advance, Shantotto began to swiftly direct the Stormtroopers until they flanked her on either side, some taking cover behind mounds of crumbling concrete with their blasters at the ready. The black material of her robes whirled about her like a triumphant ship’s sails, her staff held aloft like a beacon amid the scene of utter destruction. Still, it was with great reluctance that she turned to her Judge and the trio of soldiers in heavy armor at his side.

“You must accompany the clown in Its assault,” she said, helpfully pointing her staff in the right direction. “Stay out of Its way or an early demise will be entirely your fault.”

“Aye,” replied the Judge, ripping a cigarette out from his teeth and grinding it into the dirt. He shook out his shoulders as if loosening the muscles from a long, long rest. “Let’s give these hellspawn a show, boys.”

He broke into a run, a sharp whistle ringing over his shoulder. The distinct burrrooom of an engine roaring to life answered him, a bulky-seeming motorcycle swinging out from behind a nearby ruin and speeding angrily toward him. With a running leap and a practiced sweep of his leg, the Judge hopped astride the bike, leaning forward in the low-slung seat as a sea of flames rocketed by.

“Chaaaarge!” the hellish fairy-general shrieked, her torch raising in tandem with Shantotto’s glowing staff.

Chaos erupted. Pennywise struck like a lightning bolt upon meeting the first demonic foot soldiers, ferocious jaws snapping around the midsection of the nearest sack of demented flesh. It wrenched Its skull back with a nauseating squelch, crunching down on a pair of ribs as bits of gore splattered the front of Its costume. The demon let out a bleating scream, limbs doing a silly jig as it was throttled mercilessly about.

A few paces away, Link’s palms sweated as he swiftly notched an arrow, the metal tip flaring brightly as he hauled the bowstring back and released it with a melodic twang!

It had finally let go of the drooping, groaning demon. The distorted grin on Its face was all teeth, tusk-like protrusions of bone glinting in the firelight. Craning Its neck to look for more easy kills, It scarcely had time to react as an arrow thunked into Its side, scorching pain erupting from the wound like a burst infection.

“Hoohoo! Does Santa’s Little Helper want to play, too?” It twittered, crimson painting Its front in hideous detail as It whirled to face the Hylian warrior. It prowled forward with achingly delicate steps, claws splitting the ends of Its gloves into tatters. “Don’t worry… Pennywise’ll be gen-teeeeell this time…”

Link glanced around. The space marines had engaged his and Clownpiece’s succubi allies, their massive bolters belting out streams of deadly lead that often struck true. There was also the man on the strange, rumbling metallic steed. He circled round and round Butcher Jak, craning his mount low to the ground in elegant curves to avoid the Butcher’s massive cleaver.

Clownpiece herself was attempting to encroach upon Shantotto’s territory, torch waving about and emanating hypnotic light. Volleys of blasterfire streaked past her tiny form with dozens of separate high-pitched whines; he could see white-armored figures darting about for cover, the sharp crackle of their voices creating a kind of white noise beneath the strident sounds of battle.

Breathing deeply to calm himself, the fair-headed Hylian held the Master Sword before him and slipped into a guarded stance.

Pennywise quailed before the divine blade. It stared at the scintillating, silvery glow that seemed to grow only brighter as the cosmic devourer’s unease built, every particle of Its being repulsed by this balefire of celestial might. But, rage bubbled inside Its mind, too-- rage at being so easily conquered, so utterly cowed and frightened by a little butterknife.

It would slaughter this elf with his own sword.
