I could probably dredge up hours of awkward memories from League of Legends games - and I've only about 500 games under my belt. But here's a story from my younger days of roleplay :frog: Kinda long so I spoilered it.
The most awkward one I can think of is from a roleplay site: Roleplaygateway for those who know. For those who don't you could create a "Roleplay" which means a setting with story, locations and such, then you get one thread where everyone writes into. People could submit characters for approval by the GM. The problem is most plays go dead after people's three-week attention span expires.
So, on the first play I made a certain person joined, let's call em John, pretty much skirting around the "Medieval fantasy" theme by having a time traveler from the future, with future gadgets and such. I don't know why I approved the character anyway. John went straight for me and again tried to circumvent the rules I had put in place for the story. Let's say that it was a Pokemon based game with Trainers and Mons - only a trainer could catch a Mon, obviously. They played as a Mon but wanted to not only be their own Trainer, but also to catch me. I put my foot down on that one. Things shut down as I pointed out above after three weeks and I later made a new RP in a similar medieval fantasy theme only to have John submit a character that was pretty much a carbon copy of the character he had played in my prior game, with minor alterations to fit into the world. I say minor because he was still a time traveler from the future, same character image, same gadgets and whatnot. Just some changes to 'what did he do once he traveled to this era'. But that play wasn't getting much attention so I ended up accepting him anyway to have more players on board. Yeah, I was a bit stupid back then :psy:
I later joined a Roleplay made by someone else and John followed soon after. Not sure why he was after me but I shrugged and guessed that he was checking my page to see what plays I was on to find the good ones with several players. And mind you he wasn't a bad player, which was one of the reasons why I tolerated him in my plays. But I shot him a private message asking if he was following me and it turned into a (very one sided) conversation about how he thought my characters were cool and resembled an old friend of his who had similar tastes but that friend had died in an accident and his life was empty without roleplay and yadda yadda. I eventually decided that I didn't want to be his personal therapist and asked him to stop, that I was here to play and that these were the sorts of things I didn't WANT to know.
John's response: "This friendship is permanently over" followed by an ignore. Good riddance :frog:
And about 3 years back, on a wholely different roleplay site I ran into a character with the same last name as the character John had played back on RPGW. This was in a roleplay room (think a live-chat channel) themed around a bar, with a good dozen or so people playing semi actively. I opened his profile and lo and behold, the exact same character that he used to play on RPGW was there in his character list.
While I was checking the profile John posted into the channel with his character beelining for mine after whatever he'd been doing up until then. I opened a PM chat with him and said "We know each other from RPGW, you ignored me. I don't think we want to talk." John went "Haha wow RPGW I've changed so much since then, my roommate went back to his hometown and I found a job and-"
Oh hell naw! I ignored him and left the channel. Then I thought about what the odds are, and laughed about how he was the exact same person I remembered from back then.
