[Round 1] Taloc & Makoto vs Kerrigan & Bandit
#8
Brilliant gold flickered to sky blue and back again. The windows to Makoto’s soul ousting him and shouting out to the world that his soul has taken as much of a beating as his physical body.

Overwhelming power, enough to defeat all opposition, did not come for free. He was scraping the bottom of the barrel now, but it’d last. He’d make it last.

The two pests left behind by their master were little more than vicious balls of razor blades and too many teeth. Saliva dribbled down from their maws as the crimson beads nestled in their skulls regarded the prone form of the blood-soaked boy with hunger akin to a starved dog’s.

The sky traded places with the earth as Makoto just barely rolled out of the ditch his body had made, and out of the reach of the manic creature’s claws. Already the second beast bounded towards him, clawed feet easily finding purchase on the slick tiles.

The beat-up teenager quickly back-pedaled to gain distance, his lithe fingers already curling around the thin air in preparation. With an unspoken command, light exploded into being and took the shape of a spear, ready to vanquish the dark from this world. With another, his sword pulled at him with its familiar weight.

The first carapaced critter screeched horrifically as lightning struck its shell, discharged into its internal organs, and cooked it from the inside. The second brought its scythed limbs down in an instinctive block. Those things were stronger than they looked, if only by virtue of not snapping like dry twigs at the first opportunity.

A kick to the face was too much for it to handle though. It flopped to the ground like a limp fish and before it could get back up to its single-minded task, Makoto’s blade descended on it as if the blade of a guillotine, with him as the executioner.

A wet crunch and even more hellish squeals were heard as both its legs did their own flopping to the floor. The other pest, barely recovered, used his lapse of attention to lunge at the schoolboy from behind, sinking its claws into his leg and wrapping its scythes around his thighs.

“Agh!” the cry of pain and surprise snaked its way past his lips.

“Oh, just fuck you for this.’’ His left hand glowed with his energy and an electrified fist with all the strength he could muster behind it smashed down on the ugly thing’s face.

Its teeth instantly smashed into bits, leaving shards behind in Makoto’s flesh, but the tenacious monster relinquished his hold on the boy and fell to the ground, sufficiently dazed.

Even heavily wounded as he was, the cloaked man knew he only had one shot at this. The spines rocketing towards him appeared to slow down as his brain worked overtime and pumped his body with all the adrenaline it could produce.

One unbelievably painful jump later and he was holding on for dear life to the titanic woman, still held in the telekinetic grasp of her partner. A needle had grazed his wounded side, aggravating his broken ribs, and another had opened a fresh gash in his right foot, but he was spared the worst of the assault by hiding in his opponent’s shadow.

Never one to miss an opportunity, the assassin brought his dagger down onto the thief’s already wounded leg. He left his mark once, twice, but a heavy metal arm clutched his back and threw him into the ground below before the third could connect.

Rolling onto a half kneeling stance and putting all his weight on his good leg the man turned his attention to Kerrigan, fearing she’d summoned more of her minions. When he’d found her, however, the expression painted on her face was not one of glee, but of pain, as bright arcs of electricity ran over her body.

Behind her shoulder, his blue-haired partner had released a hail of yellow bolts towards them, lance after lance of golden energy leaving his fingertips.

Covering fire. Perfect.
