Alain managed to fearlessly stand his ground against the vampire's outburst, though the other events-Inlumia's arrival and mind control, a demon disguised as a party member who very easily reduced Dio to a pathetic, begging heap who was also the actual owner of the Manor, unsurprisingly displeased with how the Masquerade turned out...Weren't received quite as well.
Aang had gone to assist Dio while Velgr stood back for the moment, formulating a plan. Inlumia was left on his own to fight or flee from the creature, the other members of the party doing little more than watching from the sidelines, at least for now. A fight was about to start if Lumia didn't back down, that was for sure. And if the demon revealed it's true form, a lot of people were likely to panic. A single person might think rationally and go for the exit in silence, but the crowd of people was far more likely to freak out. One person snaps and suddenly everything would go to hell in the blink of an eye. Fortunately there were no screams of terror quite yet, no flailing arms around or screaming in desperation. There was only silence for those few seconds, each passing moment feeling like an eternity.
There wasn't a situation that ended well for everyone involved. If the demon forces the invader out or kills him, Dio definitely wouldn't go free for his failure as a host. If Inlumia somehow manages to overcome the demon, then the five primes kill him instead, with or without the party's assistance. Either way, it was evident that the Masquerade was pretty much over. No matter what happened from here on out, a lot of the crowd wouldn't want to stick around any longer, not after this scene.
The course of action that benefitted the mercenary most was to stay back and watch the events play out. Any moves to try and deal with Inlumia himself could potentially turn the demon against him for interfering, and he was confident that was a battle he couldn't win without the extra help. The only thing to do was stand back and plot until the little show was over. And if all else failed, dying wasn't a too big of a problem, it was a setback and nothing more. After all, what's death without a consequence? So Alain took a few steps back and patiently watched, ready to summon his blade or flee if things went south.
