The morning air was bright, and flavorful, and warm - sensations Weiss had come to appreciate, even through her deadened senses of it, after the time she’d spent in the cold depths of the Frozen Fields. She’d been subjected to all sorts of conflict and strife while she laid in the depths of that icy place, stripped of her worth, and forced to rebuild herself from scratch in the depths of an astral hell.
Compared to that, it had been jarring to come back to the comparatively quiet lands of Camelot, as she tried to figure out… something.
It was easy for her to declare, in that moment, that she was going to become a hero that lived up to the family name of Schnee. When a wanna-be hero is left without some big villain to confront, however…
How to accomplish that” becomes a lot tougher to figure out. There had been an easy way to do it, back in her world. “Hunters”, the free agents tasked with taking missions to defend the populace and help out the common man. Her grandfather had started his dust mining company by taking on the mantle of a hunter, and it was the same starting point Weiss had gravitated to.
No such institute existed here, exactly, but Weiss felt that maybe she could do at least a little good by serving the Camelot Guard. The main city of Camelot was a long walk, though, and Weiss felt it would be good, before committing to such a tremendous change of lifestyle, to enjoy the scenic route: Meet the people of Camelot by taking the roundabout road, visit the villages along the way, and learn a little more about what it was like for the common people in this place. She’d been treated to quite an eye-opener when she’d done the same in her home universe, searching for her team leader across the breadth of Remnant.
And so, the Hollowfied huntress found herself trying to decipher what a panicked villager was saying to her.
“And that’s why you need to go and exorcise-” The man continued, not having taken a breath since he and a small mob of frightened villagers stopped her. Frankly? It had gone from shocking to just odd to now irritating as he continued yelling at the top of his lungs.
“calm down!” Weiss stated with more steel than she meant to throw into her voice, and the Villagers shrank away with a sudden silence that surprised Weiss. Blinking, she realized the problem by the lack of the familiar blue tint to her vision. Her eyes were flashing their new color of black and white rather than the fake baby blues she hid them under.
“...I’m sorry.” Weiss stated with a deep breath, her eyes returning to normal. The villagers looked suspicious, but it was dark out, and most would likely chalk it up to a trick of the light.
Or… she hoped.
“So you say this monster’s hidden themselves somewhere nearby? And he… raided your pantry?” Weiss asked, trying to get something more logical from the Villager talking to her.
The burly man combed a hair through his mustache, and coughed hard enough that his portly belly jiggled from theforce, before continuing. “Yes, yes, some sort of horrifying monstrosity. Broke right into our house, threatened our dear daughter, but once she stood her ground, the foul creature was intimidated by her courage, and faith in the lord, and, err, ran off.” The man added.
“Your daughter…” Weiss added. “And which of you would be her…” Weiss added, before seeing an excited girl about four feet in height nervously put up her hand. The frail woman carried herself without a trace of fear… or muscle.
“That’d be me, ma’am. Shooed that devil off with me broom, I did!”
Weiss quirked an eyebrow at the statement. She’d seen stranger things than a demon-exorcising young girl in the omniverse, but in this case… she had a feeling that either this was the most cowardly demon she’d ever seen, or that this wasn’t as malevolent a force as these villagers assumed.
Regardless, they still had the right idea of consulting a prime to deal with the situation, and Weiss wasn’t about to abandon them. Even if this creature wasn’t a true threat, it had been cornered. As a prime and as a fighter, Weiss was capable of dealing with any attacks in case the creature felt cornered, or scared. And if it really was some spawn of the Devil… She would do what she’d been trained to do since a child, and slay monsters.
“Alright. Bring me to the town, and I’ll do my best to follow his trail. Let me handle him alone, though. I wouldn’t want any of you getting hurt.”
The burly man that had explained the situation earlier blinked. “Really? You’ll help us? But we haven’t even offered a reward yet-”
“Don’t need one. I’m a prime. There’s nothing I need bad enough to take from a poor village on the frontier.” Weiss added with a soft smile. “Consider this completely free of charge.”
Weiss could practically feel the hatred that would have emanated from her father on hearing her offer a deal like that, and the thought just made her smile stretch broader. He might have ruined their good name back in her home universe, but Weiss would make sure the Schnee name was known for its heroics and kindness as long as she lived in the omniverse.

It took Weiss a couple hours to find the retreating creature’s trail. He walked like a man, if a man with a slight dip in his gait. Either he had a limp, or something he was carrying was affecting his balance. It took a little while to make sure she had the right tracks, but - despite some people’s beliefs - part of being a huntress was being a good tracker, and after Ruby’s disappearance in her home universe, Weiss had learned everything she could about the trade. It didn’t take her long to find herself in front of an abandoned barn - the mystery pantry thief either untrained or uninterested in concealing his movements.
Taking a deep breath, Weiss took a moment to observe her surroundings. For the most part, the place was untouched. Peering into the seemingly empty barn, it didn’t take too long for her reiki sensing to spike with a dark energy. Someone else was here, and they felt pretty strong. Weiss took a deep breath. She wouldn’t be up for an easy fight if this guy was hostile - but when had the omniverse given her an easy fight?
Opening the barn door with a forceful touch, Weiss’s face was half-obscured by the shadow of the barn door. “...Hello?” she asked with a gentle tone. “My name is Weiss. I’d like to talk to you, if you’re able. I’m here on the village’s behalf.”
