Limits of Skill
#9
Making his way out of the cave, still a bit shaken up as he was worried that at any moment he’d be turned into some small critter, or better yet turned into a bug or something. Which would ruin his day if he was made into a tiny little mustelid. Anyways after he left the cave and made it into the clearing he would walk towards the sleeping tiger, who perked up once Ricter approached and would give a soft growling yawn. Climbing up onto their back they would stretch before he would soon contact Maria again, “Maria, I got it, I got the water.” He’d say, bot surprised that he was able to lie his way into getting it while also surprised he wasn’t dead or something. Which gained the same reaction from Maria who began asking, “You did? Holy shit, did you get turned into a monkey? Did they take your soul? Are you like-- 5 inches tall?” She’d say, listing off idea’s, which he was happy the guardian wasn’t able to hear this as all of those idea’s sounded really bad.

“N-no, I’m fine, just a bit shaken up. I need to know where to find a white herb now, do you have any idea where I can look for it?” He’d ask her but she would give a disappointed sigh, “No unfortunately, I think Vee might know, I’ll patch her to you since were on the phone already.” He would wait, getting a bit antsy now that he was safe from any immediate wrath from powerful figures, namely the guardian. After a minute soon Vee would answer, as groggy he was when he was woken up, “Augh, huh? Is this Ricter?” A feminine voice would say, Vee was his moogle room mate, one he helped when she was injured and more so saved her from the clutches of a group of goblins. “Yeah its me, I’m sorry but I need your help, its really important, do you now where I can find a white herb? Wait- do you have one in the alchemy shop?” He hoped she would say yes, but as she would shuffle around, trying to probably get up she’d give a “One second..” Before making him wait around a minute or two.

Ricter would hear the flipping of a book as he guessed it was Vee’s personal registry, “No, we don’t have that in the shop, its pretty rare anyways and would cost a bunch..If your looking for one you’ll need to uh..” Pausing she would read through her book some more, then after half a minute she would add, “Okay, so only the elves farm this stuff, which is around Yggdrasil-- its the big tree, you can’t miss it. Or you could try looking around in random magical groves.” On hearing this from his friend he would inwardly sigh, it was night out so seeing the Yggdrasil tree form here would be hard, but that place, by rumors he’s heard, is a literal maze that he could get lost in for weeks if he was not careful. Plus the elves were neutral, they could help or they could just let him wonder around for a while and hope to get to a village or two eventually. As for a random grove, that wasn’t on the table, he couldn’t leave the fate of Dr. Sorrel up to blind luck.

“Any other places? Come on Vee, there has to be some other way.” He’d mention as he would look at the glowing water in a jar, waiting for her to mention something, “Well, there is one other way, you know the Blighted Dell right?” Oh god she was mentioning that place, a place he was warned never to go too lest he have to fight some mutated abominations that could lead to the death of him, or worse, use his body for what ever sick things thy had in mind. None the less she would continue, “Well most of the plants there are corrupted, but if you can manage to get a shriveled up white herb and use the fairy water on it maybe you can cure it and then mix the two anyways? The Blighted Dell has rarely ever been touched, so people looking for that sorda thing might be lucky to find a bunch of them, but you only need one so you should be fine I think.” It seems she was told about the whole mission he was on, but at the same time it was a gamble.

Still, nodding to himself he had waited around enough, and he knew full well going there was better than traveling across half the verse to get to the tree and probably get lost. He’d take his chances fighting rather than something that would waste time, “Alright Vee, I’m going to the Dell, if anything happens I can kill myself and I’ll come back, right?” His voice grim, he’d rather not be corrupted by the blight, so if need be he’d sacrifice his life, and even what he’s accomplished to ensure that his power isn’t used for something bad. This sparked some worry in Vee’s tone, but she would nod, “Y-yes, you’ll come back. Your tough enough to survive a lot of thing Ricter, I’m sure you’ll make it out, just grab it and go. I’ll send you a picture of it, luckily my book comes with photos of everything.” After a brief second or two his phone would show a picture of a withered plant, this was a blighted white herb, barely usable for anything but black magic. All he needed to do was cute it using the fairy water, simple task in theory, but getting it might be an adventure of itself.

“Thanks.” Ricter would say as Vee gave a silent nod to herself, she didn’t need to tell him to be careful, by the sound of his tone he already knew what was at stake if he failed. With a beep he would hang up and a few pats he would gesture and the tiger would begin running off again, headed for the Blighted Dell.
