It was well past midnight now, probably early in the morning and he still hadn’t gotten a good amount of sleep yet but he wouldn’t dwell on it right now. Instead he would begin thinking of plans, formulating what he would do to get the water from the fairies, all the while allowing his mount to carry him to his destination. Maria was silent on the other end, probably busy with her own work as well, not daring to break Ricters concentration as he probably had enough to deal with, however deep down Ricter wouldn’t have minded talking, he needed some advice but he wouldn’t ask for it until he felt like he couldn't think of something himself. Which as he began to think he realized he needed not just one item but two things, making this adventure a lot more complex and a lot more time constrained. This virus typically took its toll over the course of a day, maybe a few extra hours if the person had a very fit body and was healthy, but a day was all he had and he had spent the last two hours traveling.
Passing by small swamps and lush meadows, things he wished he could see better in the dark but alas the moon light only gave so much vision, and his lantern only helped to see what was near by and not grandiose landscapes. But he followed what was a digital map that Maria sent him not too long after their conversation, it was drawn well enough for him to understand, mostly using landmarks and things of that nature and sent via phone. He was half way to the fairies spring before he would try to see if Maria was up, she had work still of course but he needed someone to talk too to keep himself awake, even the rhythmic bouncing of the tiger he was riding on was lulling him to sleep. “Maria are you up?” He’d say over the little ear piece as she would answer a few seconds later, “Yeah, I’m just fixing schedules, whats up?” Her voice just as it always was, but more calm now than her slightly panicked tone when she was explaining everything to him.
“Are the fairies here good? Or evil? Or the type to want to trade stuff for something they have.”
“Honestly it depends on who’s guarding the spring in this day and age, typically they can be good, or neutral, or just very mischievous, wanting something they know they shouldn’t be asking for in exchange for something they can offer. They also have fairly good magic, and their bodies are chalk full of it, people used too hunt fairies just for that reason, sometimes they still do.”
Hearing her talk about her own race he would think about what approach he should go about this, they were just passing the Blighted Dell, or at least he could see it past the tree line and would make a hard turn, following the map and traveling on the boarder, keeping himself away from that place as he had no intention of fighting any Darkspawn at all. “So they can be as fickle as they want to be.” The weasel would say back as Maria would just give an “Mhm..but there is one thing most fairies love, its something no ones ever seen before, or a good story. I don’t know if that will help you though but if you can figure out something I’m sure you’ll manage it.” Which as she said this he wondered how the hell would he manage to show them something they never seen before, or tell an interesting story? Mulling it over as he traveled along, the tiger jumping over fallen stumps and avoiding the more dangerous parts of the Tangled Green, they were about twenty minutes from the destination now, which ow the landscape began to get higher, mountains were near by and he knew from here he should keep his eyes open for a clearing.
Going slower as he began to notice dancing lights in the sky, normally he’d think they were wisps in the air, or maybe floating paper lanterns, but in this case the lights giggled and circled around one another. Following one for a few minutes they came to a section of the mountain still connected to the forest, around a mile away from the blighted Dell but the tree’s and foliage were different. A mix of lively lushness and magic that made them glow an off blue, mushrooms with spots that gave dim light and a meadow that looked almost like something from story books rather than what you’d see everyday. That was what made this realm special though, the inclusion of so many things were bound to create wondrous and amazing places you’ve never seen before. As he was lead to the clearing he would jump off the tiger as he stayed at the tree line, getting down he would then begin to walk towards the cave but he’d form something on his hand. A gold ring, since gold wasn’t much of a currency in these parts it would seem insignificant as the band was formed around his finger after a few seconds, but it would be for him, at least for now.
Walking forward he’d start to loo inside of the cave, he could feel a wash of magic spill over his body as he never felt power in such a potent extent, which left him a bit stunned but he kept going as lights and larger than average fairies would pass by him. Seemingly sizing him up, but not threatened at all by the weasels approach, maybe they were used to having others over, or they knew no matter what he tried he couldn't fight them all if he were to be hostile. The further he walked into the cave, which was more like a grass and moss filled tunnel with glowing plants dotting all along the ceiling and the sides of the walls, the more he wanted to to just take a picture of this scenery. Which he would think abut after this whole mission thing was over, no need to seem like some kinda silly tourist as he gave a determined stride, adjusting the ring on his finger, almost giving a show of how longingly he would mess around with it.
Once he made it too the inner chamber he would look around, in the middle of what seemed like a massive cave was a large glowing spring, where fairies would be resting or just playing in right now while along the sides was the same green covered flora as before, but large rocks would make for seats to rest on as they dotted the edges of the pool. As he walked in many of them would flutter around the weasel, asking open ended questions like, “Can we pet it?” or “It looks so fluffy!”. Innocent in nature but he would ignore them for now as he walked a bit closer. Eventually gaining the ire of something here, from the spring someone would begin to rise form it, making him stop his advance as it looked like a woman covered in grass and ivy that would block the view of her chest and other sections of her body. She floated, having no wings but instead was as large as a human woman, having features of one as well besides her green hair, pale complexion, and pointed ears. Slowly she moved out of the pool of water and floated towards the weasel, which now Ricters heart was beating fast, scared, but he would stick to his plan.
“My, we never get visitors so willing here in my spring, typically they are too afraid of being turned into some little creature for our amusement. Granted, given what you are your already half way there. Tell me then what bring you here?” Ricter would respond t her, but he would choose his words carefully, trying to gauge the fairy guardian’s tone.
“I’ll be honest and tell you’ve I’ve heard your water could cure many things, I’d like to take some to use it to heal someone I care about.”
“Again? I hope you realize your not the first, nor the last, to ask for our water, and as you can guess the price for it doesn’t come cheep. Are you willing to pay for this?
Ricter would frown inwardly but try not to show it in his expression, if fairies liked stories well he better make up one. Getting down on both knees he would look up at the woman, placing both of his hands together on the ground before he’d say. “Y-yes, I am, I love her too much to not let her die to something you can possibly solve. I know its not in my right to ask you of such things but I can’t watch her parish.” His tone a bit broken, but clearly very dramatized as this alone sparked the attention of almost every fairy in the room, the woman even quirking a brow and smiling. “She is your lover then? Its a rare thing to see such devotion in the face of an uncertain future, tell me, is she worth this? Worth what ever price you may pay?” Which she would lean in further, the weasel giving a slow nod before looking back up to her, tearing in his eyes as he raised his hand, showing her the ring.
“I married her and promised I’d take care of her as she did for me, my devotion is a small price to pay for what could be her lively hood. This ring represents that.” This statement would draw a chorus of ‘Awww’s from around them, the younger fairies seemed to be eating this up, while the guardian seemed unfazed at first but she could tell that what he was saying was coming from the heart. That or his acting was that good. Reaching down she would pick him up by his chin, smiling as she gave him a pat on the head, “Your love is so sweet and pure, makes me wish I could find romance so strong, so dedicated to your lover you’d risk anything for. I wish I could steal you, hm, I could if I wished. But instead I’d like one thing.” She’d ask of him as he would respond with simply, “Anything..” Which a smile would curl along her face as she whispered into her ear, “I’d like to have your ring.” Which was what he planned on. Looking down at his ring he would rug along it, rubbing it as the young fairies around them seemed enthralled by what was going on. Like watching a romance novel take place, or one of those soap operas on telemundo.
“B-but…I can’t…its, so important..” He’d say back to her as he looked flustered, she would only smile and lean back, “If its more important than your lover then I’d say your care little about them.” Her rebuttal was sharp as soon he’d get chants from all around the spring, many fairies saying for him to give up the ring, as if hoping he’d do so for the sake of his loved one. Which after playing it up for a good dozen or so seconds he would eventually pull it off, soon offering it up too the woman above him, which as she would reach out she would take it and soon it would turn into small dust particles. Soon she would say, “Good, your sacrifice of your wedding ring wont be in vein, here, this is for your wife.” She’d then offer him what seemed like a jar, a bottle of sparkling, glowing water. Which he’d happily accept, although he looked sad still, which he would cheer up and soon say, “Thank you, thank you so much! I-I’ll…make sure she gets this, and that her illness is cured, you have my word.” His theatrics continued as another volley of ‘Awww’s would roll around and echo in the cave, but before he could even think about leaving she would lean in again, whispering into his ear as she would say words that would make his heart jump.
“Nice acting, my fairies will be entertained for a long time thanks to you.” And with a fluster on his face and a stiff posture that showed he was scared out of his mind now, he didn’t know what how much she knew he was lying but he could guess probably a lot. Still she would soon give his head a pat and say out loud, “You may take you leave, be sure to come around again and tell us more of your wife and her condition, I’m sure we’d love to hear it~” They would say as she grinned, which the weasel would give a very genuine “Y-yeah, t..thank you again..” Clearly shaken he would make an about face and turn strait towards the caves entrance, walking slow but with a clearly terrified expression on his face. But he got it, the first of two items needed, now he would just need to figure out where the other was.
