Limits of Skill
#7
Stepping outside in the dead of night only the few lights coming from the windows of the building behind him made the way to the main paths clear. Instead of running again he would stay still, thinking and contemplating something to ride and take him place, but agile and easy to move around in the jungle landscape. It took him only around ten seconds before he formed what seemed to be a large tiger, white with black stripes and having armor plating along their shoulders and hind legs. The tiger had long fangs, a helm that fit well on their head, and a feral body over all. Looking back towards Ricter and giving a soft growl Ricter would look back at them, both scared he might have screwed up and confident that he knew they would help him. A moment of silence followed as they stared each other down before the tiger turned and sat down, as if gesturing for him to come along, which the weasel would soon climb on its back. Quickly they would set off, the pouncing tiger moving quickly through the streets of Amborsia, all the while Ricter would begin to test the small head set he was given to try and speak with the secretary.

“Maria, are you there?”
“Yeah I am, glad these things still work. Are you out of the city yet?”

He’d shake his head to himself, knowing no one was around besides himself as he rode along, clutching the fur of the tiger and staying on them as best he could, not one for traveling bareback on any creature but this was as good as any time to practice.

“No I’m not, I needed to ask you questions while I’m on my way. How did Dr. Sorrel contract Palizum? She told me it was a rare thing.”
“An unmarked envelope from an address somewhere in town, we already called the authorities on it but by what she told us she opened it and it released a white powder everywhere, infecting her. Normally we wouldn't give letters like that to our doctors but it looked like a love letter, I’ve read too many romance novels to stop that sorda thing…I-I’m sorry.”

“Its not your fault, don’t beat yourself up about it, Maria. Do you know who sent it? Anything besides an address?” Ricters tone a bit more determined when he said this, like a parent ready to tear someone limb from limb for hurting their child.
“We don’t know yet, this happened only around half an hour ago. Do you think this is some form of revenge? For what happened before?”

“Yeah, no way it could be anything other than a stab at her personally. But why call me? I know she trusts me but couldn’t a group more qualified manage to do this better?”
“Your our only combat experienced medical professional here, you know how long it would take to put out a quest, get adventurers to take it, and risk their lives to bring back what could be the wrong thing? It would take days, if not weeks, she doesn't have weeks Ricter. So, she told one of the doctors to call you.”

Closing his eyes he would sigh and shake his head, trying to clear his mind to prepare for what he might have to do as the tiger turned and made a hard right, going down an alley way. “So, I should expect a fight then huh?” He’d say over the communicator as silence followed however eventually she would respond with a “Yes, unless you can charm the fairies to give you the water then I don’t see it happening any other way.” For which he would soon be at the edge of the city, the dark forest making the path way out gloomy and black as the night sky. He wouldn’t need a light as he began to manifest a lantern to use, but now he needed directions and he felt satisfied for what he knew, for now at least. “Alright, I'm out of the city, where too Maria.” She would take a few moments to think before she answered him, speaking with a practiced tone, showing she knew where to go but it escaped her before.

“You’ll need to follow the mountain pass near the edge of the Blighted Dell, after that you will find the spring inside one of the caves, surrounded by a clear patch of grass and an flower filled clearing. I’m sorry I can’t go myself, they know my face and probably wouldn't let me in anyways. Plus with how dangerous it is I’ll just be a hindrance.” She seemed a bit upset about not being able to help more but Ricter seemed more or less fine with her attempt at aiding him, this alone was better than nothing at all, though why the fairies had a spring near the Blighted Dell was beyond him, maybe it was easier to hide given how corrupted one section could be. Regardless of the placement and reasons he would just give a simple “Thanks, I’ll tell you when I’m coming back.” Which she would respond with a solemn, “Good luck, Dr. Casenger.” With a soft pat from Ricter his mount would soon begin running off, vanishing into the forest.
