No one will ever know the tale of how Nippurs greatest assassin rescued Sophie on that fateful night of music and death, no one except for Victor and Sophie of course, who was way too traumatised to ever want to talk about the kidnapping again. Dropping her off at the hospital it had seemed that she has suffered heavy scarring on the abdomen and lost a few fingers on one of her hands. With a grateful smile, she bowed her head to her rescuer as he informed her that he had other important business to see to, leaving her with a card containing his email letting her know to contact him in a few years once she had matured.
Once outside the hospital, a golden cross hanging above the entrance Victor grinned and patted himself on the back, they had saved the girl, crushed an oligarchy, and even captured all but two of the organisation's members alive and awaiting their justice. Life was good for the assassin, the alliance with the town with no name was almost ready to enter its second phase, the economy could start to be steered in the right direction now that the little merchants association had been crushed, and Victor only needed to kill a whole two people to get what he wanted, this was unheard off, a mission that didn't leave double digits dead as collateral damage? This being diplomatic thing was much easier than he had thought.
Business had already started to return to the city as the threat of being crushed by an oppressive oligarchy not hanging over everyone's heads and the renewed vigour of a well-paced return to glory had people in the productive mood, there where so many new opportunities for business, and with the kingdom still trying to sort out its internal affairs no tax of extreme regulation to really hold back their creativity. One of these new businesses had a logo the assassin recognised.
Syntech, the company run by a prime so powerful only his own verse could contain his power. And that could only mean one thing, it was time for the annual death tournament, Victor had missed the last few due to a bad case of death but this year there wasn't really anything stopping him, after all a good showing in the tourney would do good things for the cities reputation, and it was in a DA that Victor had met his current allies and helped make a name for himself. But before he could step forward and sign up Victor noticed one of the guards, his black exorcist uniform flowing in the dusty wind of the city streets as he ran towards the Lord.
"Lord Victor! We need you at the gate!" the guard huffed as he reached his destination, panic covering his face as he tried to catch his breath, hands on his knees as he sucked in the warm desert air, almost panting from the heat, even if those uniforms where lightly designed black was probably not the best colour, Vic knew this because he himself kind of enjoyed the suffering his own black assassins gear brought him under the dry and barren sun of the dunes.
"Do I now? But I was just about to head into the yearly death tournament! So this had better be good let me just go down the list shall we honey? Are the Empire here with an army ready to kill us to the last man? Is that floating pink monstrosity with the power ring about to try to make us humble again? Did Diablo break out of hell to drag our king back and turn him into a fleshlight? The assassin went down his priority list the guard answering no to each one as he got more and more irritated by the Lord's lax attitude.
"Well it looks like my list of priorities is clear then, let the lower ranks handle it, I am off to beat some people up, Oh unless last on the list I guess but not likely, is there a scorned woman looking for some sort of child support?" Victor playfully stuck his tongue out as he started to strut towards the registration desk only to freeze dead as the guard shouted.
"Yes, well kind of that, angry woman and a young child that both seem to believe that the child is your daughter!" Victor stopped dead in his tracks, his heart almost stopping, this was totally impossible, yes back home he may have left a trail of bastard children in his wake but he hadn't really had time to mess around since he got to this world, unless... No could not be that, after all the girl was undead and judging by how long ago that was he assumed that she would have already gotten here had that been the case. But it was on the checklist of issues to bother Victor about and thus as a Lord of Nippur he was honour bound to go and deal with the issue.
"You know if I am going to be dealing with someone that might be lying about having my kid, a mind reader might be useful to help clear my name, So could you go and tell our brave knight Erik that I order his presence by the gates as soon as possible, that would be super sweet of you Mr Guardsman!" Victor said a little panic in his voice as he tried to remain composed, the guard simply nodding as he rushed off to find the psychic.
Rushing to the gate Victor noticed a few guards standing around not sure what to do about the situation, Victor letting out a sigh shouted.
"Out of the way cannon fodder, don't you have perfectly good thieves to be getting choked out by?" The guards cleared the way to the gate for the Lord some of them grumbling, the occasional comment about how the bloodthirsty psychopath should still be locked up in a cage, the thought of being caged slightly arousing the politician as he exited the city to be greeted by his one time undead lover, and a small girl who looked to be around ten years of age.
Doing some quick mental math the assassin let out a sigh of relief, the girl could not be his as she was way too old, no matter how time in this world worked it had never gotten that weird. Without warning the girl ran towards the assassin hugging his leg, accepthing it as a case of mistaken identity Victor looked down and smiled, his hands ruffling through her brunette locks of hair, causing her to look up. A moment of shock as he could almost see himself in her eyes, the bright red glow of his people's bloodline and a mischievous sly smile at the corner of her mouth. The predatory gaze that had taken Victor years of practice to perfect naturally reflecting from what he was now realising was definitely his daughter's gaze.
Victor froze for what felt like an eternity to him, a family was always something that had never felt right to him, his parents? Dead, his brother? Suspected dead but then turns out to be one of the leaders of the rebel forces in his homeland, then suspected dead again, then leading another rebellion and almost killing Vic. In other words, they tended to either be never around when he needed them or his biggest weakness, no matter how many times they fought each other Victor and his brother never seemed to be able to put the final level of pressure behind a swing to kill the other. Yet for once Victor didn't feel fear, as he looked into his daughter's eyes, wide with the same curiosity that had filled his own at that age, and the same underlying violence, Victor saw potential.
After all, if there was one thing this world had taught Victor it was that traditional gender roles tended to be blown out of the water, this tiny person could grow to be the only heir ever truly worthy of inheriting the Wolfe name, not his pathetic self-righteous brother, nor any of his other children from one night stands in the past. After all, this was the first time one had activly tried to track him down, and that showed initiative.
"I AM YOUR FUCKING DAUGHTER!" the girl squealed with glee breaking Victors thought process, of course, she had been raised by Gabriella for all of her life, of course, that speech pattern was a thing. If she was going to inherit his legacy that would need to be worked on, although knowing how much of a badass the girl's mother was she was probably plenty strong already. Even at her young age.
"It would seem that is the case you little bundle of joy!" Victor said happily as he scooped her up, sitting her on his shoulders as he walked over towards her still not too happy looking mother. Still as gorgeous and violent as he remembered her. Brunette hair framing cold piercing eyes and a mouth that Victor had gotten very familiar with, teeth only as sharp as the words that came out of it lining her smile.
"Why hello there Gabriella, I am glad that you decided to take the invitation to this glorious city, Before we get into the whole, talking thing maybe we should get out of the direct rays of this blasted sun. and into the city where there is shade and solid cobble beneath the feet, sand might be the one thing worse than swamp land to walk on, it is the enemy of friction, and I know how much you love friction and hate the sun love" Victor winked at his former lover as she suppressed a smile, trying to keep up her anger at being abandoned by the prime. But he did have a point about the sun.
"Why the fuck not, I guess" She pouted as Victor turned towards the gate, a few of the guards standing in his way. A look of annoyance spread very quickly across his face as he stared them down, His free hand slowly drifting towards his bright golden dagger. The guards not wanting to get impaled decided to announce their reasoning.
"Lord Victor, do you really think its wise to bring these... questionable characters into our fine city, especially after all that the people here have been through in the last few days!" The clear leader of this small squad of disposable weapons confidently announced causing Victors frown to turn to rage and maliciousness.
"Ok well let me remind you of the pecking order in this city, it goes Gilgamesh, Sasuke and I, the handsome psychic boy, Dave, Candy the tight ass, Shay the absent, The black man with a weeb blade, the white-haired dude that brought a severed head as a gift, the two witches with attitude problems, All of these fine citizens, and then you lot, just above the criminals I slaughter and the dirt I walk on. So if you want to walk away from this with all of your internal organs in place, then I suggest you move out of my way and" Victor grabbed the leader of the group close lifting him by his shirt to make eye contact, his eyes filled with protective bloodlust.
"Never call my child a questionable character again you toad," Victor said as he stormed past the group followed closely by Gabriella, Valarie sticking her tongue out at the men who seemed to be frozen in place by fear, it felt good to be in power.
Walking for a little the trio reached a small bar, near the gates, walking over to the bartender Victor handed over a small pouch of gold coins "I need privacy, and if you see knight Erik heading towards the gates call him over and send him in I guess." Victor smiled as the bartender putting away the money rushed over to the two regulars and asked them if they could leave for a while, seeing who was standing in the doorway they nodded, giving a bow on the way out as the bartender followed.
Once the pair was alone Victor turned not even sure where to begin. "Ok, age, what, how, so big, undead, birth. OK, I don't know where to begin so can you shed some light on why our three-month-year-old looks to be about ten and how this even happened in the first place?
Once outside the hospital, a golden cross hanging above the entrance Victor grinned and patted himself on the back, they had saved the girl, crushed an oligarchy, and even captured all but two of the organisation's members alive and awaiting their justice.
