Something rustled in the undergrowth. The sounds of the woods were quietly returning to their normal levels. There was always a customary lull in the various calls and songs of the forest denizens whenever a nearby gate had a passer-through, like now, and there were those who used this to regain alertness. Like this ninja casually lounging around on a branch while watching from the trees around the portal:

He even had a helpful title to point out his name, marking his an NPCof sorts. Not an important one, his black and orange outfit was neither gaudy or matching enough with the blond hear and that weird headband for him to be some sort of main character.
Whoops, slipping a bit too far into the meta there...
Little Ghost was luckily unaware of this, for while the little critter was usually an alert and attentive vessel it was consumed by the weird feeling of having been around as a... spirit-thing for these last several months. Though there was something tempting about that small path into the greenery. The memory of chasing something over stone and log and narrow brook, through bush and fern and blasted thicket. The memory of being interrupted by something... Little Ghost shook his head as the memory faded to the sound of a loud rumble and grumble, a shaking thorax.
Hunger.
Walking off on his little legs, Little Ghost drew his Nail for there must be something out there to eat.
Perhaps a tapir?
