I'm working on a basic tool for my next character to start out with. The intent is that it would be good for digging holes and tunnels in most environments, but wouldn't be very practical in direct combat (just dealing situational damage at most). Is this sort of thing acceptable, or should I reconsider?
Crank Drill - 300 OM (Requires Physical Strength)
Simon's trusty tool for digging tunnels. The drill itself is of a conical design, about as long as his forearm and twice as thick around at the base. It comes with a crank at the base for turning the drill manually.
Simon can use this tool to bore through most earthly materials, for as long as he can keep a steady pace. No matter what he drills through, the process requires a suitable amount of time, energy, and patience. Dirt, clay, and gravel are the easiest and offer little resistance, while solid rock or unrefined metal may require a lot more effort to punch through. Energy-based barriers/ shielding cannot be drilled through. The holes and tunnels created by this drill are large enough for Simon or any other slim-bodied human to fit through without too much struggle.
This particular drill doesn't have any sort of combat application. Nevertheless, the drill itself is quite resistant, and difficult to ruin just by using it- the tool would have to be deliberately broken by an attack to prevent use.
