Hecate wasn't sure what was going on, should she feel sad? fearful? anxious? None of these emotions felt right to her to describe what she felt. Nigh somehow she felt indifferent about it. "I watched that girl... yet I did nothing." She thought about the situation, each time thinking of how she could come to the reality of it. "Even if I was not in control, I am the one who's head will meet the headsman's axe." The concept of death was one she had not felt the need to delve into the happenings of life after death. No, Meistra goddess of death would grip her hand and lead her into the afterlife, a dark black void filled with the souls of those who had fallen before her.
Even that was of no comfort, something was off. Not only had her other personality maintain control for a far longer time than what had happened before but in that time period that personality... no.... she had added three more bodies to her kill count, a list that despite her efforts continued to grow.
The last time her dark side had come out and left bodies on the ground was when she was taking her final exam, the graduation ceremony.... The memory of the event was as vivid as ever.
"Soldiers of Vestura, Magi of Vestura! Today marks the final trial on your path to the everlasting glory that awaits all who fight on the righteous cause led by our king! As many of you have been made aware when you began this journey in the search power, in search of strength. All of you have seen death, looked it in the face and knocked Meistra's cold grip away! Today marks the completion of your training, the steps you have taken to to reach this power. As such some of you will not be so lucky."
Hecate looked out of the corner of her eye as the Witches standing beside her, each one was clad in the same white uniform, each standing at attention. None blinked, all watching with unbreakable attention, save for herself.
"You will make one final test the cornerstone of your training, each of you shall go into the woods. Of the 100 of you no more than 25 will return. But know this, those of you who fall, will be revered by those who claim your life."
Hecate saw her fellow students begin shaking, everyone feared death. Hecate didn't know if she did.... She had never been good with emotions, even as a child.
The forests were quickly filled with the sounds of the dead. Her swords had both already been broken still she had killed three of her fellow students. Their neckties taken as proof of the dirty deed. Her body was sore, small burns covered her exposed flesh. Rocks blasted apart by magic turned into weapons, buried deep inside her. Her victories had not been without cost. Yet the small feeling of satisfaction trumped the pain she felt.
"Did I do that?"
"Or did she?"
