There's no set rule for how a fusion must look.
Citation(s): When Proto Man and Mickey Mouse fused, it was the token dbz-style thing where it was like, Mickey Mouse wearing Proto Man's armor.
However, there was a four person fusion of Shang Tsung, Magus, Sinestro, and Atelos the Spartan that wound up being a like, a skeletal energy creature with no semblance of any of them.
As long as you don't give the fused form any Powers/Moves that its parts didn't have, you are a'okay.
