Davenport Duplex, Apartment 3C
#4
10 AM, the next day.
Holy fucking dynamite! Stein awoke with possibly the greatest headache of his life. His tongue felt like a desert and it felt like half his organs had crapped out somewhere during the night. Yup. Liver’s definitely failed. The stench of alcohol in his room and the number of bottles, solo cups and half empty bowl of chips suggested a party. This was one hell of a hangover – it must have been a great party.

The last thing Stein could recall was the meet and greet. The food was fantastic, but then someone cracked out a few bottles of booze… then everything went fuzzy. The first thing he realized was that he was passed on the floor. Sitting up made the ache worse, both in his head and in the liver currently trying to break down the metric ton of alcohol he consumed the night before.

The second thing he noticed was his wardrobe. First of all, he was freeballing. No shorts or boxers… just a toga. Why? Why… am… you know what, that’s fine. Makes total sense. The bedsheet tied almost expertly around him covered enough that he hopefully did not make a fool of himself. Hopefully…

By luck, the shades had been drawn and the room was nice and quiet. The only pain came from moving and breathing and existing. Still, the hung over hero crawled to his feet, groaning every inch of the way. His feet dragged across the hardwood floor. He had to remember the layout of his new apartment so he could keep his burning eyes shut.

Thump. He found the ground only a few seconds later, having tripped over something soft and groaning. Rolling away and splitting one eye open to take a look… he finds Dianne sprawled out on the floor, halfway under the coffee table. She too was attired in a toga, but the cloth had ridden up to show off the woman’s backside and frilly pink panties… Well then…

A topic for later – right now, Stein needed water, pronto. He took a quick count.  Dianne, Richy, Z’tar – who was butt naked and a pregnant woman comfortably slumbering on his couch… Stella, he assumed. After struggling his way to the kitchen, he whipped up five tall glasses of water, with a little bit of ice. Sadly, he lacked any migraine pills. They are now at the top of his to-do list.

“Wakey, wakey. Time to get up, you drunken lot.” No response. “Common guys, I’m pretty sure at least two of you have a job somewhere.” Stein lumbered around with the tray, nudging people with his cold toes. Z’tar was his first victim. “Hey, buddy, where’s your clothes?”

The first response was a groaning noise that sounded almost like… bubbling… then a language he did not understand. Of course, he spoke the language of Hangover enough to know it was probably a fish-language curse of Z’tar’s very existence; or Stein’s for waking him up… or both. The Aquan rolled over, revealing he did not need clothing. Outside of his masculine body, the crux of his legs had no sign of genitalia. Probably something like a dolphin, Stein imagined… then immediately regretted it.

The blue-skinned man spotted the water, smacked his dry lips, and weakly reached for one. Stein assisted, handing him a glass. It was emptied in seconds. “I’m sure there’s a Drink like a Fish reference here, but I’ll spare you a crappy pun.” Stein received the demons glare.

Next was Dianne. Damn, she’s hot… He almost did not want to wake the ebony beauty up – but… he had to. First step was slowly moving the coffee table, so she did not bump her head, and then he would pull her toga down to cover herself. Best save her modesty, he thought. “C’mon. Time to get up.” Speaking so pained him… but he had to be a polite guest. He knows he did not buy any of this alcohol, which meant his apartment had merely been used to crash at.

Dianne was easier to rouse. She rolled over, stretched and offered a languid smile. “Morning.”

“You have a bit of drool…” Stein gestured at his own jaw. Dianne quickly sat up and wiped her face but a moment after, she winced and cradled her head. “Brought you some water.”

She nudged him lightly with a dainty hand. “Such a gentleman.” She accepted the drink, but unlike Z’tar, she sipped at it. “Great party last night, I didn’t peg you the Karaoke type.” Well that’s embarrassing.

“I do what I can.” Stein tried to play it off cool. “Just wish I could remember it better.” He chuckled. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I still have one more drunkard to wake.” He then continued on the task at hand, leaving Dianne with one more charming grin.

Richy got a good stiff nudge to the knee. “You alive?” Richy seemed to be in as bad of shape as him and Z’tar. No doubt the three had some sort of competition going on between them. Richy groans at first, but another nudge gets him to roll over. By the stains on his toga, Richy seems to have lost by way of vomiting. Hopefully he managed to find a toilet or trashcan…

The man smacked his dry lips and struggled to open his eyes. Stein already had a glass held out for him. Before a word was said, Richy took the glass with a shaky hand and chugged it. Poor guy almost choked on an ice cube. “Easy man, no one’s taking it from ya.” He thumped his neighbor’s back with a heavy hand, just to help him during a moment of sputtering and coughing.

Richy was not into talking right now, so last but not least was Stella. He poked her shoulder lightly and she opened an eye. The pregnant mother-to-be did not have a hangover, as expected… but there was a suspicious bowl of candy wrappings beside the bed, along with various other food products that… should never be together. .. Including a pickle jar RIGHT NEXT to a peanut butter jar.

He still offered the glass of water and she accepted. Stella was attired in a toga as well, but he could tell from the strap on her un-sheeted arm she was fully dressed beneath it. It took a high blood-alcohol content to disrobe, apparently. “Thanks, Mr. Stein.  Did you sleep well?”

“Like the dead. Feel like it too.” The hero’s eyes were bloodshot, but he was quickly recovering. The headache was slowly fading, and his liver was no longer failing from alcohol poisoning, so that was good. “You need anything?”

“No, but since you’re the only one fully functional, you might want to check on Malissa… Poor girl is probably still passed out in the closet.”

Stein laughed. “Hey, wasn’t me this time!”

“It almost was, if Z’tar hadn’t woken you back up. Both of you passed out in there.” Stein’s brow rose in question. Stella responded with a devious little grin. “Z’tar won a game of beer pong and wanted to play Seven minutes in heaven with the guest of honor.”

“What’s that?”

“That explains why you said you’d play it with everyone.” Stella was trying to control herself, but every other word was accompanied by a laugh. Clearly a room of drunks was quite a show. “Anyway, you might want to go check on her.”

He did just that. Sure enough, he opened the closet door and there was Malissa… For a moment, he was frozen in pure shock. Poor woman was buck naked and clutching a bottle of whiskey… Stein also noticed that this is where he left his swim trunks. This might not be good. Kneeling beside her, he nudged her shoulder.

The lovely mother of twins woke. She seemed to be in better condition, probably passing out earlier in the party. “Brought some water.” Stein offered the drink. Malissa traded the whiskey for the glass and took a few deep gulps.

“Nice party…” She cleared her throat, sitting up. “Hand me my panties?” She requested, gesturing with a nod across the small room to a shelf. Black lace and tossed onto a few boxes of Mac ‘n Cheese. Stein handed them to her, but for a moment she seemed too out of it to get dressed. Not that he minded… “Did we…?”

“I can’t remember. Malissa said Z’tar dragged me out after we both passed out. Solid maybe… You feeling okay?”

She stretched her legs, then her arms, both of which gave Stein a great view. “I think you mean Stella, I’m Malissa. And minus the hangover… pretty good…”

“Right, my bad. I’m not immune to the detriments of alcohol either, I’m afraid.” Stein gave her shoulder a light pat before standing up. “Let me know if you need anything, I’m going to check and make sure Z’tar and Richy didn’t drown in their cups.” Malissa and Stein shared a little laugh. Poor guys had it rough, he doubted they had his regeneration factor to help them out.

It took a good half hour to round everyone up. Richy made a quick and agonizing trip to his apartment for some medicine for headaches, and once the goodies were dished out with another tall glass of water, the hung over folk made a ring around Stella. She had involuntarily become the designated lorekeeper of what was apparently an epic night of drinking, karaoke and… other things.

“Well it started out as a pool party, but then Z’tar and Richy thought we needed alcohol instead… They brought what must’ve been… oh jeeze, almost ten big bottles and a cooler of beer...” She paused, taking a bite of a peanut-butter smothered pickle.

Everyone was dressed, except for Dianne, who apparently could not find her top… so she was in jeans and a toga. Z’tar was wearing shorts, but remained bare chested and Stein was much the same. Everyone else looked ready for their day… though Malissa was still missing one of her socks. It looked as if a bunch of self-dressed kindergarteners were waiting for story time.

“After a little talking and goofing around, Stein started singing karaoke… He and Z’tar did a very lovely duet! Then, Z’tar suggests Seven Minutes in Heaven, and that’s when the night started getting REALLY funny!” Stella almost broke out into laughs. “Stein said he’d play a round with everyone! I don’t know what he thought it was, but he goes in with Z’tar, comes out with a look like someone had just explained rocket science to him!”

Z’tar had a shit eating grin on his face, those shark-like teeth almost glinting with pride. “Those seven minutes were the best of the night, I believe!”

“And then he goes in with Dianne! There’s some hooting and hollering, and then Stein comes out with a grin and Dianne practically stumbles out like she just ran a marathon.” Dianne was absolutely red. Her ebony skin almost looked like hot coals.

“Stein said he needed to rest for a minute, so he and Malissa start drinking together, giggling like absolute idiots – then when THEY go in all we here is dead silence! After seven minutes, I think Mr. Z’tar gets jealous and goes to check, and we find they were both passed out on the floor! So he drags Stein’s naked butt out, wraps him in a bed cloth and wakes him up. He grabs a few more and suddenly everyone is wearing togas and getting into round two of drinking!”

“Why didn’t you wake me up?” Malissa inquires, brows furrowed.

“We tried, you said you didn’t want to go to school, so we propped you up on a pillow and let you sleep it off.” Malissa huffs, but nods. She could see that happening, apparently. Stella just giggled like a mad man. “It was the BEST night out I’ve had in a long time!”

“Hey!” Richy interjects.

“Shush you, I know you had a good time too.” Stella telling it like it is. “I was laughing so hard I thought I was going into labor.”

It was Stein’s turn to interrupt. “So apparently I turned into a manslut when drunk.” That earned a laugh from just about everyone except Z’tar…

The Aquan wraps an arm around Stein, that wicked smile still in place. “I do not mind the man slutting. As my people say; ------“ For the life of him Stein could not understand the sounds the blue-guy was making. “Which means, there are plenty of fish in the sea!”

“I don’t think that means what you think it means, buddy.” Stein shook his head. He could not help but grin at the man’s way of looking at things.

Dianne, who was still flushed red, glared at Stein. “Well my people have a saying too! And it involves breakfast after the fact!”

Silence… Realization dawned and suddenly everyone was checking the time. “Anyone up for breakfast?” Stein suggested. In a bustle of motion, the adults with remnant hangovers were up and heading to the door.

“Gotta grab the twins!” Malissa chirped.

“I need to get Granny too, I’ll catch up!” Dianne chimed as well, prancing towards the door. “And a shirt!”
