Securing Northside? [Exemplary]
#7
A few dingy storage rooms branched off from along the sides of this hallway, though only one had a guard stationed outside. He was obviously expecting them and immediately slunk back into the room the moment he laid eyes upon them, rather than panicking and trying to get a shot off. Clearly someone had spotted them unloading the vans... well, either that or Davion had already begun his attack around the front and they had just assumed that the Empire wouldn't be dumb enough to leave them an open escape route. Which was, admittedly, a fairly safe bet to make.

From within the room came the sounds of people readying weapons; apparently, that one guard was not alone. The squad drew to a halt at the same moment they heard the back door banging open behind them. They turned just in time to see a mob of NSW thugs crowding in through the narrow doorway behind them. They were surrounded.

“Takanomiya, distract those ones,” Kroll pointed to the room towards which they had been heading, “we'll take care of the others.”

“Yes, sir!” the Prime barked, diving forwards and flipping over in mid-air so that he struck the doorframe itself, facing into the room at an angle, and could immediately make a second leap before they (or gravity) had time to respond.

There were five in all, wearing cheap and worn clothing in the same grey-on-white gang colours as the other Wolfpack members they'd run into previously. The big, dumb-looking one right in the middle held a sawn-off shotgun in one hand and an SMG in the other. To the far left a wild-eyed woman carried nothing more than a big knife, whilst the other three – all men of unassuming builds but with mean looks to their faces – held 'heaters'; the slang name for stolen and customised imperial blasters.

Bouncing off the wooden frame, Hijiri drew his katana and plunged it up to the hilt into the chest of the central figure before any of them could even get a shot off. As the dying man began to fall, the Battle Rabbit swung his own body around, using his weight to position the big guy between him and the two to his left, he then darted right, leaving behind his blade; there was no way he'd have time to pull it free before his foes could strike, so this was his only option.

He still held the scabbard, though, and was able to dive beneath the two shots fired his way, and flick out his arm to shatter an ankle with the sheathe. It was fortunate that this room was so small, since when the man cried out, dropped his weapon, and stumbled forwards, that movement put him directly between his ally and Hijiri.

A laser from off to the left missed his head by inches as he sprung up, shoved the injured man into his friend and then turned to face the other two. The man who had shot was readjusting his aim, and the woman was almost upon him, her knife headed straight for his gut as she bared her teeth at him.

Hijiri side-stepped casually, she followed immediately, and her backup fired again, all in the same moment.

The woman yelled in agony and the knife slipped from her fingers as her colleague's gun blasted a hole straight through her outstretched arm. Seeing her distraction, the Prime grabbed a clump of her long and matted hair, spun, and dashed her head against the wall. She collapsed, unconscious immediately.

He took a step back, admiring his handiwork as the two remaining gangsters who weren't dead, unconscious, or curled up on the floor clutching their ankle and sobbing like a baby levelled their weapons at him.

“It's over now.” said the one to his left, pulling his trigger a fraction of a second before the other one did too.

Altering gravity to reduce his weight down to practically nothing, Hijiri darted backwards far faster than the pair had expected, rocketing out through the doorway. Turning in mid-air, he used a wall as a springboard, reached the opposite wall, and did the same again, landing on the ground in a crouch. He began focusing his energy, so that a couple seconds later, when the first guy rushed out – waving his heater around like a fool as he attempted to cover every possible location by himself – the Battle Rabbit needed only to lean forwards and release the energy he had built up thus far, significantly increasing the weight of his first, even as it rose up in a graceful arc which culminated in an excessively heavy strike to the thug's groin.

The man was lifted a couple inches off the ground before he fell, and there was an audible crack when the blow landed. Hijiri's victim's eyes rolled up into his head; he had blacked out before even hitting the ground.

“You bastard!” the next man screamed, apparently not a big fan of the underhanded move.

He had Hijiri directly in his line of sight and the Prime was still overextended; he didn't have time to dodge.

Just as the NSW goon's finger began to tighten on the trigger, though, a hole appeared in the centre of his forehead and he toppled forwards. Looking past him, Hijiri saw Kroll and the others headed his way.

“Nice work, Takanomiya, though you might want to work on not having to be rescued all the time; I might not always be here to have your back, y'know?” Kroll announced smugly as he and the others approached.

Ignoring his friend's words, the Rabbit cast his eyes back over the squad. He still found it difficult to tell them apart in their armour, but he'd gotten a little better at it; it'd certainly be helpful to have some sort of mental power like Michelle, but alas, all he could do was look closely at their build and their gait as they walked. It took him a couple seconds, but he worked out who was missing.

“What happened? Are Reiner and Leben alright?” Hijiri noticed that as well as the missing pair, a couple others bore hastily bandaged wounds; they may have beaten their foes, but the fight clearly hadn't been as one-sided as they'd have liked.

“They'll be fine. Reiner isn't even hurt, he's just helping that drunken oaf back to the van. Leben took a shot to the thigh, and not just a graze, either, the blast passed right through the bone and came out the other side; he's not going to be any use today. He's lucky the guy who shot him was using a heater, though; the wound is completely cauterised, so at least there's no need to worry about blood loss.”

“Huh. Well, it could have gone a lot worse... so, we just wait on Reiner then head further in, sergeant?”

“Almost. We do have a few other things to take care of first. Starting with this.” so saying, Kroll stepped into the room and, holding his blaster in one outstretched arm, fired immediately.

“Die, Empi-” the sobbing man got out before the blaster-shot put him down. From where he stood, Hijiri couldn't see what exactly had happened, but he did notice the laser which flew wide and hit a random spot on one of the walls as the thug keeled over. It seemed that he had managed to overcome the pain in his ankle enough to pick up and aim his weapon, with the intent of killing the next person through the doorway.

He clearly hadn't anticipated anyone expecting that of him, though, and so hadn't acted quickly enough to beat Kroll.

The fake sergeant sauntered casually back out of the room.

“We can't just leave potential threats lying around. Singh, Nash; handcuff the unconscious ones and load them into the van. Who knows, we might get lucky and find out the locations of even more of their bases from them after this is all over.”

“Yes, sir.” the pair chorused, as Leon crouched down by the guy Hijiri had hit in the balls and Priya headed into the room he'd cleared to check for other survivors. The knife-wielding woman would be the only one, now, since Kroll had finished off the man whose ankle had been broken.

“We'll wait for them before heading on. In the mean time, Takanomiya, go get your sword, then we'll check a few of these other side-rooms, just in case they have any surprises in store for us.” the ex-noble commanded.

“Yes, sir.” Hijiri said, along with Brandon.

“Yes, s-” Trevor started to say, a moment later, before realising he'd messed up the timing again and trailed off with a sigh...
