“Here you are, lieutenant, the prisoner you requested.” the smile could be heard in Kroll's voice as he strode into the medical bay, stepped aside, and waved 'Kev' through. Priya brought up the rear.
“Hmph. Glad someone's enjoying this.” Davion grumbled.
“You're not?”
“He hasn't decided how he feels yet.” Hijiri clarified. “Ask again in a few hours and maybe he'll have an answer for you.”
The ex-nobleman-turned-stormtrooper laughed. “Well, in the meantime, you're more than welcome to take a crack at questioning our friend here. Though I doubt you'll have much more success than any of the rest of us.”
As they spoke, the suited man – sans jacket now, since it had been thoroughly soaked through with his associate's blood – walked over to the female prisoner, lifted his cuffed hands and gently rested one on her brow, smiling gently. Though her expression didn't noticeably change from its usual passivity, the wolf-woman closed her eyes and her tensed muscles loosened as she relaxed.
“Alright, then, let's give this a shot.” Davion's voice was gruff and no-nonsense. It was hard to look intimidating whilst badly injured and wearing nothing but a mint-green hospital gown. Still, he did have the advantage of actually looking pretty tough; with close-cropped brown hair, stubble lining his jaw, thick features and an impressive amount of muscle on his frame, he was distinctly more 'manly' than Hijiri or Trevor. “Your girlfriend told us you're called 'Kev'. That right?”
“Kevin Fischer, at your service, lieutenant.” the man responded pleasantly. His clothes were rumpled, his face badly bruised and his lip split, but it hardly seemed as though Kevin was experiencing any discomfort at all.
“And her?” the lieutenant went on.
“Sarah Watt.”
“Seriously?” Kroll demanded irritably, causing Priya to laugh and Kevin's smile to widen a little. Apparently, the squad hadn't even managed to get their names out of him in two days of interrogations.
“Why were you part of the Wolfpack?”
“We joined several months ago, as soon as she found out they existed. My associate believed the rumours, you see; she thought she might find others with powers like her own by joining a gang supposedly comprised of lycanthropes”
“Of what now?”
“Werewolves, sir.” Kroll clarified, as Hijiri and Priya nodded their agreement. Trevor just glanced across at his superior and shrugged... then hastily returned to his latest task (window cleaning this time) after receiving a glare in return.
“And did you? Find any?”
“No, lieutenant. At least not that we know of. If there were some, they hid their powers from us.”
“Hmm...” Davion gave his next question some though... “why are you suddenly being so helpful, when my men-”
Priya coughed, pointedly.
“-when my soldiers tell me you've been taking beatings for two days now in order to keep all this hidden?”
“Ah, rather a good question, lieutenant. A good, good, good question indeed... alas, though, my answer may prove to be something of a let-down. For you see, I was merely entertaining myself. I am, for all intents and purposes, immune to pain. I simply enjoyed their annoyance. Alas, once they heard that my associate had awoken, your squad made it clear that it was only a matter of time before she would be well enough to face their interrogations in my place. So, now seemed as good a time as any to come clean. We faced off against you as a result of my associate's misguided sense of loyalty, but honestly, I couldn't really care less about those 'NSW' fools myself, so if I can save her from facing torture by sharing their secrets, then I will gladly do so.” he turned his head slightly, casting a glance towards Kroll, who stood ramrod straight, with arms crossed. Not too happy at having wasted all that time.
Davion sighed. “Well, okay then; you know we'll be wanting every bit of information you've got on the Wolfpack, right? So spill it.”
Still as cheery as ever, Kevin did exactly that. The occasional additional question was required, over the course of the hours that followed, to clarify some detail or other, but by and large, they were able to get the full story out of him without any real resistance... much to Kroll's chagrin.
In addition to discovering the locations of a few more NSW bases (the pair hadn't been ranked high enough to know them all, sadly), they also learned the reason for the large shipments of guns which had been showing up. It seemed that one of the more powerful figures in the gang, a Prime who called himself 'Shotgun Steve' – though was actually named 'Reginald Bennerton', according to Kevin – had decided to step up a turf war between the NSW and their biggest rival, the NSP, or 'Northside Pyros'. The Pyros were said to be just a bunch of teenage idiots who liked fire way too much for their own good and had gotten involved in protection racketeering somehow.
They were still a threat, of course, but with far less resources than the longer established and more accomplished Wolfpack, they couldn't hope to win a fair fight. Their main defence (aside from all the pyrotechnic explosives) was their anonymity... but with as much gear as they'd had packed into that warehouse, Hijiri wouldn't have been surprised to find out that the Wolfpack's plan was as simple as walking through the Pyros' territory and killing every teen on sight. That'd definitely cut their numbers down to size, and when the local EPD forces arrived, they'd likely be slaughtered too. The NSW could potentially continue running rampant until Command had time to organise a squad of Space Marines and call in Judge Dredd to lead them down from Tier One.
The amount of time that would require would result in the deaths of a lot of innocent bystanders. Looking at his lieutenant, the Battle Rabbit could tell by his expression that Davion was having similar thoughts. Kroll and Priya's body language seemed uneasy, but with their helmets on, Hijiri couldn't get much more from them than that. Trevor was (somewhat worryingly) dusting the supposedly sterile medical equipment, and seemed to have tuned out most of the conversation. The other 'trooper remained unconscious on his bed, Kevin smiled brightly, and the wolf-lady, Sarah, seemed completely relaxed.
“And it never bothered either of you? Knowing that they were preparing for some huge battle, and you might end up having to gun down kids?” Davion demanded of the prisoners.
“Not in the slightest, lieutenant.” answered Kevin cheerily.
“Nah.” agreed Sarah.
“You try to seem all friendly, and you act like some kinda emotionless fucking robot... but you're really just criminal scum, no different from the rest, huh?” Davion glared at them both. The suited man simply shrugged, and his companion gave no reply at all. “Get him out of my sight, and as soon as she's ready to be moved, I want her in a cell too.”
“Yes, sir.” the two stormtroopers each grabbed Kevin by an arm and began to haul him off. He didn't resist, but Sarah's expression became worried, and she tried to reach out for him, only to be stymied by the cuffs which held her.
“Kev...”
At the door, Kroll turned back. “Dodson, get over here now! You've been cleaning this one room all day, so it's about time you headed over to the training grounds! We can't have you continue to be a useless dead-weight for your entire life!”
“Aw... yes, sir...” Trevor groaned, then hurriedly gathered up his cleaning equipment and followed with his head hanging.
Only when they had left did Davion speak up again.
“Since when has Iechtelsteir outranked that moron?” the lieutenant looked to Hijiri for answers, but the Battle Rabbit could only shrug in response.
“Hmph. Glad someone's enjoying this.” Davion grumbled.
