The Gaston This City Needs
#2
Gaston laughed.
"Ha! You think that these fools can defeat me!" He firmly gripped his blunderbuss and jumped forward at the man with the bat. However, what happened was not what was expected. It was not a small jump to get him started on a run, no, it was a leap! A bold, exciting leap, one to conquer all others! Well befitting to a man as great as Gaston! And it thrust him high in the air and far towards the man, propelling him as easily as an arrow soars through the air. As soon as he got close to the man-no more than a metre away, but still in mid-air, he aimed at the man's bat and fired, knocking it out of his hand and causing it to fly off and hit a wall, right next to where a child was watching. "Sorry," he yelled, taking off from his leap and running past the stunned man to go to the child. "Now, run home, and eat some eggs. You look like you could use some," he said, gesturing towards the boy's lean arms. But the boy merely opened his mouth, shocked by something.
"S..sir, behind yo-" But he didn't finish his sentence, as a large wooden pole swooped down, narrowly staying above the boy and slamming against Gaston.
"Yes!" came a voice, loud and filled with pride at hitting Gaston. The burly man angrily looked up, glaring in the direction of the pole. Standing there was a tall man with a seemingly normal sized pole, smirking. "Shit, man! This really was worth killing that kid for!" Gaston looked back at the child behind him with confusion, but then looked back at the man, focusing.
"You killed an innocent child for something? Terrible man!" Gaston set his gun on his back, pulling out his bow before quickly jumping as high as he could, landing on top of a small building. He then leapt again, managing to make it to the top of a larger one, far above the ground. He cocked an arrow into his bow, taking aim at the far-away man on the ground. But as soon as he looked closely, he saw that the man had lifted the small boy up by the neck of his shirt using the pole, having extended it again. "Damn! He's smart..." Just as Gaston was trying to think of how to save the child, the man rapidly pushed out the pole, causing the boy to go flying toward Gaston.

"Catch 'em!" he yelled, taunting Gaston. Gritting his teeth, Gaston leapt to the boy, landing on the roof with a crash, leaving a large indentation in the roof.
"Dammit, child! I told you to leave! Go hide somewhere!" The burly man ran to the edge of the ceiling after scolding the boy, drawing his boy again and aiming at the man down below. As quickly as he could, he released the string, firing an arrow directly into the man's arm, but as he did the man shot forward his pole at Gaston. As quickly as possible Gaston ran to the edge of the building, jumping back down the way he had come. Out of breath from jumping so much, the burly man moved at a fast pace (though not a complete run), putting his bow away and pulling out his knife. He pounced on the man as he was clenching his arm, stabbing him in the leg. "Fool! You will not commit atrocities while I am here! Remember that...AH!" Suddenly, Gaston felt a shot going straight through his side, and turned around to a woman holding a revolver and scowling.
"Shut the hell up, man. It's annoying."
"Why-I am a hero! I shou-" but before Gaston could finish speaking, he began coughing, the bullet lodged in his side. He held his arm to his side and winced, focusing on easing the pain through sheer willpower. But suddenly, something strange happened. The bullet popped out, and skin began to thinly rethread itself over the wound. And most importantly, to him at least, the pain was dulled. He turned around toward the woman who had shot him, grasping his knife firmly before lunging at her. Panicking and surprised by him getting up, she fumbled with her gun, but it was too late by the time he jabbed his knife into her wrist, causing the revolver to fly out of her hand. Desperately flinging for an opening to attack, the woman smacked her head forward, banging into Gaston's chin before bitting into his arm. Gaston kicked into her leg, causing her leg to buckle quickly. He pushed her forward, causing her to fall on the ground. The burly saviour let out a cheesy grin. He had finally become a hero! But the man from before rushed forward, yelling as he swung wildly with his bat from earlier and pole from the other man in hand. Looking back, Gaston began to back up, but the man struck down, hitting him in the shoulder with the pole before throwing it aside, swinging hard into Gaston's side. Just where Gaston had gotten shot. He flinched, buckling down to grab the wound.

"Bastard!" he yelled, grabbing his blunderbuss from on top of his quiver and hitting the man in the stomach with it. His adrenaline was his only painkiller as he stood up, shooting the man directly in the foot, nearly blowing it apart. The man fell down, on one knee barely able to move. But Gaston, himself, was also close to disabled. His wounds were slowly healing, but the pain was almost unbearable. He sat against the wall of a nearby building, leaning against it as much as he could. Hopefully, he was safe.
