Well this sucks.
The only thought that was currently going through the Ex-SOLDIER’s head as he used his blade as makeshift cover. Blink’s portal had disappeared before he had reached it, and a small group of pirates had pushed him away from Cole. It wasn’t a situation that he enjoyed, to say the very least.
‘Maybe I can use my Materia.’ Cloud spoke to himself, the sound of bullets slamming into thhe blade filled his ears. He looked down at the gauntlet on his left arm, two green orbs sat comfortable in it. ‘If I can take out two, the third would be no problem.’ He finished as he listened, bullets still pelting his buster sword. Then the firing squad stopped.
‘Now!’ Cloud thought to himself as he rolled to the left, coming to a stop about a foot away from his previous location. He threw his arms forward, and activated his materia. A bolt of lightning engulfing one of the corrupted men, while a pillar of flame engulfed another. Cloud, without leaving time for the third to finish reloading his weapon, dashed over to his blade and ripped it from the ground. He then, with all his strength, tossed the blade at the pirate, penetrating the former-human’s stomach and pinning him to the ground.
Cloud sighed, wiping sweat away from his forehead, as he retrieved his blade. The body fell to the ground, lifeless. Though he’d imagined that whatever poor soul used to inhabit this body had moved on a long time ago. Either way, he was alive and this, thing, was dead. Now he just needed to find a way to meet up with the others.
Cloud spun around, narrowly blocking the strike of another - fourth - enemy. This one was larger, and wielded a cutlass. The being leapt backwards with a surprising amount of acrobatics, for such a large humanoid, before charging the blond again. Cloud swung his blade, clashing with the pirate several more times before they came to a blade lock. Even with his flimsy looking blade, he was keeping up with the strength and weight behind the mercenary’s attacks. He really didn’t have time for this whole extended fight kind of deal. He’d been separated from his group, and just when they were so close to their goal. He’d been lucky enough that the explosions hadn’t reached him yet, but he could only assume that his luck would have to run out at some point.
Cloud pushed against the man, staggering him a little bit, before leaping backwards. While still holding his blade, Cloud threw his hands out in front of himself. The corrupted Pirate had been watching his previous fight, and leapt to the side, dodging both attacks. But he wasn’t done yet, without hesitation, he hurled his blade straight at the man. Cloud watched with anticipation as his blade sliced through the air. But not this time, the swashbuckler pulled the blade from mid-air. Now he had two weapons and cloud only had his materia, and even then, he was feeling the fatigue from overusing the magic. The creature laughed, proud of its accomplishment, as he dashed towards Cloud.
Cloud weaved to the side as his own blade came inches from his body. He was close enough that he could see his own reflection in the bloodied blade. The creature growled as it pulled the blade from the roots of the beaten and broken mangrove island. Cloud dashed behind it and leapt up onto its neck, forcing it to drop his and its own weapon. It grasped at his thighs as he began to squeeze and lean backwards. Cloud transitioned into a back handspring and slammed his opponent’s head into the ground.
‘That’s my blade.’ Cloud spoke as he lifted it from its debris filled resting place and headed back to the unconscious darkling.
‘Better make sure.’ He spoke as he raised the blade high into the air. He swung the buster sword downwards and, much like a guillotine, cleaved it’s head off. A safety precaution, he wouldn’t want it getting up after he turned his back on it. Cloud clipped the blade to his back, he’d have time to clean it later, and then looked at the nifty little wristband that Blues had given him. A little arrow was pointing further into the mangroves.
‘They pushed me quite far.’ He sighed as he began sprinting in the direction the arrow pointed. ‘I’ll need to move as fast as I can to meet up with everyone.’
